*New Candlesticks in Kenmore and Striping on Simonds Road*

"*What are the new white vertical tubes I’m seeing on our roads? 
*"Last week new vertical delineators (aka candlesticks) went in at key safety locations on several arterials in Kenmore. The new white vertical tubes are a continuation of the City’s Target Zero [ https://www.kenmorewa.gov/services/target-zero-initiative ] efforts to improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists. Candlesticks do two things: create a more visual narrowing effect which causes motorists to slow down closer to the speed limit, and provide added protection and comfort for cyclists. Because of the speed difference between cars and bicyclists, having a vertical delineator can provide an added layer of safety and buffer so that cyclists can feel more comfortable riding alongside cars. The candlesticks also prevent cars from using bicycle lanes as turning lanes and cutting into bicycle space at intersections.

"*And what’s going on with the restriping of lanes on Simonds Road and 68th Avenue?
*"The bike lanes added to 170th Street east of 68th Avenue are the final link between the City’s investment in bicycle infrastructure on Simonds Road and the bicycle facilities in the rest of the city, including access to the wider region of bicycle facilities through the Burke-Gilman Trail and Lake Washington Loop.

*Join Us Tomorrow for Kenmore’s Play Day!*
Come out and play August 10 at Rhododendron Park from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. Get your kids and the whole family outside and active with fun activities including pickle ball, yard games, an obstacle course, and a bouncy house! 

Parking is limited at the park so guests are encouraged to walk, bike or carpool to this event. *"New this year", *a free ADA accessible shuttle will be available during event hours from the Kenmore Park & Ride to Rhododendron Park. *Skanska to Host a Public Meeting about Lakepointe Use on August 19 at City Hall
*In July, Kenmore residents received news that Skanska, the contractor building WSDOT’s Portage Bay Bridge and Roanoke Lid Project, will use Lakepointe to store, assemble and transport materials from Lakepointe to Portage Bay in Seattle using tugboats and a barge starting this summer. Skanska will host a public meeting and Q&A on August 19 to share more information about how they will use Lakepointe for the next three years.

* Time: 6 – 7:30 p.m. (presentation begins at 6:15 p.m. followed by a Q&A session)
