RapidRide J Line banner

The RapidRide J Line project will enhance transit access and improve travel in the University District, Eastlake, South Lake Union, and Belltown. Whether commuting, attending the University of Washington, receiving medical care, or visiting local businesses, this project will make getting around easier and more convenient.  

Our goal is to maintain reliable transit connections for Seattle’s growing communities by upgrading roads, sidewalks, lighting, drainage, and traffic signals. We will also add protected bike lanes and replace the water main on Eastlake Ave E. These improvements will support local businesses, housing access, and connected, vibrant communities.

University District Water Main Work

We have completed our water main trenching and installation on NE 43rd St between Roosevelt Way NE and 11th Ave NE and moved over to NE 43rd St between 11th Ave NE and 12th Ave NE. Crews are tentatively scheduled to complete pipe installation the week of March 3. We will repave the street once both sections of NE 43rd St are complete.

Our project team is dedicated to preserving existing art in the Eastlake neighborhood. Construction crews will carefully remove and store most mosaic tiles along Eastlake Ave E before work begins in those areas. We will then reinstall the tiles as we finish sections of the new sidewalks and curb ramps. This work comes with noise and dust typical of construction. 

We will temporarily remove and store the mosaic tiles at the following locations along Eastlake Ave E: 


* Fuhrman Ave E: southwest corner. 

* Harvard Ave E: southeast corner. 

* E Shelby St: northwest corner. 

* E Roanoke St: southwest, northeast, and southeast corners. 

* E Hamlin St: northwest, southeast, and northeast corners. 

* E Lynn St: northwest, southwest, northeast, and southeast corners. 

* E Boston St: southwest and northeast corners. 

* E Newton St: southwest corner. 

* E Howe St: southwest and southeast corners. 

* E Blaine St: southeast corner. 

* E Garfield St: northeast corner. 

* E Galer St: southeast corner. 

Crews will carefully remove the tiles, and work should take no more than a few hours.  After removing the tiles, we will add a temporary patch until all sidewalks are restored near the end of the project. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to preserve these tiles. Please note that tiles may be removed in other locations if needed.
