*March 16-22* is *Transit Appreciation Week*, which recognizes and celebrates everyone who contributes to the operation of the best transit system in America: King County Metro! A highlight of the week is Transit Operator Appreciation Day on *Tuesday, March 18*.
The most visible faces you see every day are the operators—bus drivers, light rail and streetcar operators, Access, DART and Metro Flex drivers and Water Taxi captains and crew—but our regional mobility system has more than 5,700 people working to get you where you need to go comfortably and safely every day! Whether you ride daily or use one of our mobility options for a trip to the store, a medical appointment, or a night on the town, all of Metro’s employees work together to get you there.
Transit Appreciation Week is also your opportunity to say thank you to anyone and everyone at Metro.

*Members of the cabinet will:*
* Gain a deep understanding of Metro as an organization, its guiding policies, services, operations and decision making.
* Build and strengthen connections in their communities, learn and share about their community’s history, assets, needs and priorities around transit.
* Shape Metro initiatives and policy updates by collaborating and advising us on key initiatives and policy updates.
We are seeking applicants who live, work or regularly visit King County, or use King County Metro services.
* **We encourage applications from:*
* Black and Indigenous people and those from other communities of color
* Immigrants and refugees
* Linguistically diverse communities
* People with disabilities
* People with low-income
* Residents of all areas of King County including unincorporated areas
* Youth, seniors, LGBTQIA+ and those who are unhoused
Members are compensated $50 per hour for time attending meetings, reviewing materials, community research and engagement, or other, related activities outside of meetings.
Metro strongly encourages youth and young people to apply. Established members will offer opportunities to pair up with and mentor newer members and youth will be encouraged to take an active role in ensuring our outcomes represent the values and priorities of the next generation of transit riders.
Monthly meetings will be held virtually on weekday evenings. There will be up to two in-person meetings at the beginning of the term and one to two additional in-person meetings or events per year. In-person meetings or events may be scheduled on weeknights or weekends, depending on group preference.
Metro will provide reasonable accommodations needed for participation such as interpretation during meetings, translation of materials and alternative formats. Metro will seek to address other request such as technology support or childcare stipends on a case-by-case basis.

ORCA transit ridership grows to 151 million trips
Regional ridership jumps 12% in 2024.
Transit in the Puget Sound region delivered 17 million more trips in 2024 than the prior year, according to six ORCA transit agencies. Community Transit, Everett Transit, King County Metro, Kitsap Transit, Pierce Transit and Sound Transit delivered 134 million trips in 2023 and 151 million trips in 2024.
The growing popularity of transit aligns with recent expansions and improvements across the region. Transit agencies celebrated adding more bus trips, opening new bus rapid transit lines, launching Sound Transit Link light rail extensions, offering more fast ferry and water taxi service, and extending “first-mile, last-mile” options that connect neighborhoods that do not yet have frequent bus or light rail service.
