New Work Group Advances Seattle’s Commitment to Anti-Displacement

We recently announced a partnership with the City's Innovation and Performance Team to launch an Anti-Displacement Work Group. This group unites key department leaders and policymakers across the City to develop targeted solutions that will help residents and businesses stay in their communities as the city grows.

"“The Anti-Displacement Work Group will promote collaboration among City departments that are already delivering crucial programs and services to protect communities at risk of displacement”" - Amy Nguyen, OPCD Deputy Director

Germany's Dialogues for Urban Change (D4UC) Visits Seattle
A large group of people standing outside on a flight of steps pose for a photo.

Urban Planners from Germany were in Seattle last week for a week-long visit to various communities. In the photo above, we joined a walking tour of Yesler Terrace, led by the Seattle Housing Authority. These visits were organized by OPCD, Office of Housing, D4UC [ https://www.nationale-stadtentwicklungspolitik.de/NSPWeb/EN/Projects/D4UC/d4uc.html?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ] and GIZ [ https://www.giz.de/en/html/index.html?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ] from Germany.

Muckleshoot Tribal School Visits OPCD/City Hall
A group of young people stand around office cubicles. The cubicles are surrounded by frosted glass barriers.

Youth from the Muckleshoot Tribal School visited our offices last month to learn more about Indigenous urban planning, led by our Indigenous Planner Tim Lehman and Equitable Development Initiative (EDI) development specialist Dakota Murray (on the left in the photo). We appreciate their interest and curiosity in the urban planning field!

Celebrating Khmer New Year

A group of singers wearing traditional Khmer clothing perform on a stage in front of an audience.

Our staff recently attended a Khmer New Year celebration at South Seattle College. The event was hosted by our EDI partner Khmer Community of Seattle King County (KCSKC) and featured cultural performances by youth and elders.

Three people wearing dark clothing look at photos of Khmer architecture on a wall. Round stickers are placed on the favorites.

Attendees also participated in a sticker dot activity led by Mithun Architects to signify what is important to them in the design of KCSKC's new community center.

Opportunities with EDI

*Take Action to Shape a More Inclusive Seattle by Joining the EDI Advisory Board!*

Through this Request for Qualifications we hope to build a network of support for EDI grantees and make it easier to find consultants that will help grantees develop strong projects and organizations.
