*Spokane Street Swing Bridge (Low Bridge) **closing October 25 – 27 to people driving, walking and biking*

*Summary:*

The Spokane St Swing Bridge will be closed on Friday, October 25 from 7 AM, and it will stay closed until around 10 PM on Sunday, October 27. We will be putting back a big part (i.e., a turn cylinder) that we took out in April 2024. If you need to travel while the bridge is closed, there are different ways to get around the Duwamish Valley and West Seattle:

*

Ride the bus

*

Take the Water Taxi

*

Drive or share a ride on the West Seattle Bridge (the high one)

*

Trucks and businesses can still get to Harbor Island and Terminal 5

"The bridge span is opened and closed by turn cylinders that push and pull on the lift cylinder."

Here’s how you can get around during the closure:

*Taking the Bus*

The bus is a good way to travel between different places on both sides of the Duwamish Waterway without having to drive. Buses drive over the high bridge and are great for people walking, biking, or using wheelchairs. Check out King County Metro’s trip planner page [ https://lnks.gd/l/eyJhbGciOiJIUzI1NiJ9.eyJidWxsZXRpbl9saW5rX2lkIjoxMDIsInVyaSI6ImJwMjpjbGljayIsImJ1bGxldGluX2lkIjoiMjAyMjEyMzAuNjkwMjg3NTEiLCJ1cmwiOiJodHRwczovL3RyaXBwbGFubmVyLmtpbmdjb3VudHkuZ292Lz91dG1fbWVkaXVtPWVtYWlsJnV0bV9zb3VyY2U9Z292ZGVsaXZlcnkjL2FwcC90cmlwcGxhbm5pbmcifQ.RF3iiKPZSYAXgHgO6TbP6YxJkjEJeNOSIWzDTCtlEhQ/s/1812472307/br/151499749620-l?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ] for the latest bus routes and times.

*Taking the Water Taxi*

You can ride the West Seattle Water Taxi [ https://lnks.gd/l/eyJhbGciOiJIUzI1NiJ9.eyJidWxsZXRpbl9saW5rX2lkIjoxMDMsInVyaSI6ImJwMjpjbGljayIsImJ1bGxldGluX2lkIjoiMjAyMjEyMzAuNjkwMjg3NTEiLCJ1cmwiOiJodHRwczovL2tpbmdjb3VudHkuZ292L2RlcHRzL3RyYW5zcG9ydGF0aW9uL3dhdGVyLXRheGkvd2VzdC1zZWF0dGxlLmFzcHg_dXRtX21lZGl1bT1lbWFpbCZ1dG1fc291cmNlPWdvdmRlbGl2ZXJ5In0.Ei8Nmw6hc5HHFdnaHS160xuoVy2kZiEuVtZL67pRF10/s/1812472307/br/151499749620-l?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ] every day of the week, except certain holidays, from West Seattle to downtown. It can hold up to 26 bikes.

*Driving or Carpooling on the High Bridge*

The high bridge is open for cars and is a direct way to get where you need to go. Right now, there are no rules about which cars can go. However, people walking or biking can’t use it, and there are signs telling you this.

*Walking, Biking, and Rolling*

Walking, biking, and rolling are not allowed on the low bridge during this closure. There are other paths for bikers like West Marginal Way SW [ https://www.seattle.gov/transportation/projects-and-programs/programs/bridges-stairs-and-other-structures/bridges/west-seattle-bridge-program/west-marginal-way-sw-improvements?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ] where there are now permanent safety barriers. You can see where other bike routes are on our Bike Map [ https://experience.arcgis.com/experience/ee5b243b03e24a0691b4f7336ada2b2f?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ]. Walking and rolling folks can also use transit during the closure.

*Access for Freight and Business*

Travelers can still reach Harbor Island. They can do so from the east via SW Spokane St.

Use these detour maps show how to get between Terminal 5 using the West Seattle High Rise Bridge: Going to Terminal 5 [ https://sdotblog.seattle.gov/wp-content/uploads/sites/10/2024/09/Terminal5_Entering_Map.png?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ]  / Leaving Terminal [ https://sdotblog.seattle.gov/wp-content/uploads/sites/10/2024/09/Terminal5_Exit_Map.png?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ]5.

*What’s Next*

We will keep fixing another part of the bridge early in 2025 to make sure it keeps working well. Over the next year, additional short-term closures will be required as part of our ongoing preventative maintenance work on this bridge. That means that in the future, the low bridge will be closed again to people walking, biking, rolling, and driving.
