Construction Beginning: Denny Way Paving Project

*We’re excited to share that construction for the Denny Way Paving Project will start on March 26 and continue through to fall.*

The project, located on Denny Way from approximately 5th Ave to Stewart Ave and on Yale Ave from Denny Way to Howell St, will restore the pavement condition in this critical piece of Downtown Seattle. When finished, the road will surface will be smoother and more predictable and ready for any future changes that may be needed in this area.  

*Improvements Include:*


* 12 blocks of asphalt paving
* 21 rebuilt curb ramps and 8 new curb ramps
* 8 total curb bulbs that shorten crossing distances_,_ including 4 paint-and-post curb bulbs at select intersections, a plastic curb and post bulb and 3 concrete curb bulbs
* 28 "no turn on red" signs  
* 25 painted stop bars at every signalized intersection 
* Sidewalk improvements  
* Hardened centerlines reinforcing existing turn restrictions
* Bus stop changes to improve transit travel time and reliability   

*What to Expect During Construction*

Work will primarily occur at night, from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m., Monday through Friday, with some daytime work and occasional weekend work. During construction, there will be lane closures along Denny Way, but one lane in each direction will remain open at all times. Sidewalk closures will occur, though pedestrian access will be maintained. Lane closures may last for 2-3 weeks at a time, and work zones will cover a few blocks at a time. Initial work will begin on Denny Way between Taylor Ave and Dexter Ave. Our team will take out parts of the old sidewalk and parts of the road, check utility locations, and then pour new sidewalk, new concrete road sections, and build new ramps for pedestrians.

*Things You Should Be Aware of During Construction* 

Construction will create some short-term changes to your area, including: 


* You may notice noise, dust, smell, and vibrations.
* You may need to change your walking route while we work on sidewalks, but we will provide signage for you to follow.
* Your business matters to us and we will provide advance notification of work and any impacts in person and provide you with a direct contact for questions. We will maintain access to your businesses at all times.
* You’ll notice work between 7:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. Monday-Friday with some daytime and possible weekend work when needed
* Some of your parking and loading areas may shift near work zones but we are working at night to reduce these impacts.  
* If you are traveling along Denny Way, you may need to switch lanes around work areas. Signage will guide you on your journey.
