*Completed and Upcoming Culvert Projects Create Safer Passages for Fish
*The new, fish-friendly culvert at the intersection of 61st Avenue NE and NE 190th Street is done and 190th is completely open. The new culvert and the repair and stabilization of the stream banks provides safer fish passage from the stream to the Sammamish River and Lake Washington. Thank you to the Kenmore community for their patience during road closures and construction. See a photo of the completed culvert. [ https://www.kenmorewa.gov/home/showimage?id=4679&t=638460984785870384 ]

In other culvert news, Congresswoman Suzan DelBene recently secured nearly $18 million in federal funding for 15 community projects across Washington’s 1st Congressional District [ https://delbene.house.gov/uploadedfiles/20240304_wa01_cpf_2024_one_pager.pdf ], including *a $1.3M grant for a new fish friendly culvert for the Swamp Creek tributary going under 192nd Street* (near 73rd Avenue). This culvert project will be incorporated into the new sidewalk project on 192nd street [ https://www.kenmorewa.gov/our-city/projects-in-the-city/ne-192nd-st-sidewalk-bike-lane ] (which is grant funded and improving another safe route to Kenmore Elementary) and will replace a culvert that is currently blocking the passage of migrating salmon and other fisheries.

Replacing culverts and improving fish passage is part of the Kenmore City Council's Rapid Progress Plus fish friendly culvert program [ https://www.kenmorewa.gov/government/departments/public-works/environmental-services/swm-utility-rates ]. There is more great work helping salmon and wildlife habitat on the way.
