Prepare for High Winds, Hail, and Heavy Rain in Seattle

**What's Happening?**

The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Outlook for our area. An Outlook is a weather forecast that tells us about any important weather that may occur. The Outlook is in effect for Wednesday, March 26, 2025.

We should prepare for the following weather:


* lightning strikes
* hail (up to 2" in diameter)
* heavy rain
* high winds

We expect that any severe weather would arrive in Seattle between 5:00 P.M.– 7:00 P.M.

**What Should You Do?**

Safety is our top priority, and there are a few things you can do to keep yourself and others safe:


* *Learn about Lightning Safety: *We don't get many thunderstorms in our area. Since thunderstorms can escalate quickly, you should take time to learn how to stay safe when there's lightning [ https://www.weather.gov/safety/lightning-safety?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ]. 
* **Secure Outdoor Items**: We are asking permit holders to secure their job sites, sidewalk cafes, or other outdoor operations during off-hours. Make sure to tie down or bring inside anything that the wind could blow away.
* **Drive Carefully**: If you’re on the road, be extra cautious. Strong winds can make driving tricky, especially if you’re in a tall vehicle like an SUV or truck. Heavy rain in the city can cause water to pool on streets. Keep both hands on the wheel and watch out for other people.
* **Watch for Falling Debris**: Be on the lookout for tree branches that might break and fall. If you see any downed power lines, stay away and call 9-1-1 immediately.
