Climate Action Plan Workshop September 12

This hands-on workshop will provide community members the opportunity to weigh in on their priorities for upcoming climate action initiatives in Kenmore. The workshop is free and open to all ages (with kids activities provided). Don't miss your chance to be a part of Kenmore's planning to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and reach carbon neutrality by 2050. Can't attend in person? HM Pacific (Cadman) Drops Clean Air Permit Appeal

On July 25, 2023, HM Pacific Northwest, Inc. (formerly known as Cadman Material, Inc.) filed a motion with the Pollution Control Hearings Board (Board) requesting that its appeal of Puget Sound Clean Air Agency’s (PSCAA) October 26, 2023, Order of Approval for NC No. 11861 be dismissed. On August 21, 2023, the Board granted HM Pacific’s motion, and dismissed the appeal. As part of Kenmore’s housing strategy, the City continues to plan for a range of densities and housing types for all needs and incomes by preserving, improving, and expanding housing stock. In an effort to promote more diversified and attainable housing options, the Kenmore City Council recently approved a resolution to waive building, plumbing, and mechanical permit fees for the construction of new Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs). Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Accessibility Implementation Plan Reviewed

In July, the Kenmore City Council reviewed a Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) Strategic 5-Year Plan. Late last year, the City Council adopted a DEIA Policy and City Staff utilized that Policy and applied the principles to produce a Strategic Plan to create a roadmap for advancing DEIA in both the City of Kenmore organization and the greater Kenmore community. The meeting included a review and discussion of the proposed implementation plan and staff will bring back a final DEIA Strategic Plan for City Council adoption in September. The plan was developed by the City’s DEIA consultant, Chanin Kelly-Rae Consulting and a DEIA Advisory Committee made up of Kenmore community members. StreamFest 2023 at Log Boom Park

As salmon are starting to make their way home (visit the Ballard Locks right now to see them up close in the fish ladder), we're gearing up for StreamFest 2023! All are welcome to join us for this free, family-friendly event on Saturday, September 16 from 1 - 4 pm at Log Boom Park. There will be kayaking, community science, water monitoring, fish printing, and other fun, educational activities with Sno-King Watershed Council, People for an Environmentally Responsible Kenmore (PERK), Whale Scout, and the Lake Forest Park Stewardship Foundation. City Council Reviews Public Works Operations Center Funding Proposal

At the July 24 meeting, the Kenmore City Council reviewed the proposed Public Works Operations Center project phased approach and funding strategy. Since last year, the City has been in the preliminary design stage for a new Public Works Operations Center on the recently acquired property on 202nd Street next to Kenmore Middle School. The proposed funding strategy could result in a Surface Water Utility fee increase of approximately $75/year per household. The new facility will serve the growing demand for maintenance and operations support for Kenmore’s parks, streets, and stormwater infrastructure. Desirable qualities of a commissioner include a strong interest in the future of the Kenmore community, an ability to review the meeting materials in advance, and being able to communicate well with others. Kenmore Cares Mental Health Kits

"*Do you need a mental health pick me up?*" *Kenmore Cares!* Kenmore Cares Mental Health Kits are now available at the front desk of City Hall and at the Senior Center in Rhododendron Park. Anyone can come by during regular business hours and request a free kit for themselves or for someone else. The contents include a deck of cards with mental health advice, a sleep mask, a pack of gum, a stress ball, and a chocolate with an inspirational message inside.
