*City Council adopts Kenmore’s first Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) Strategic Plan
*At the meeting on September 11 [ https://kenmore.civicweb.net/document/132704/ ], the City Council adopted Kenmore’s first Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) Strategic Plan. It contains seven goals designed to create and foster community and workplace culture that consistently places DEIA principles at the heart of everything the City does. The Plan’s adoption comes after over a year of outreach to the public and work by the City Council, city staff, and the DEIA Advisory Committee (erstwhile Task Force), the latter of whom played a key role in refining and improving both the Policy and the Plan through the feedback they were able to give due to their expertise and lived experience. The Plan calls for the city manager to report annually to the City Council on its progress. *Street Parking and Bike Lane Changes Coming to 80th Avenue
*Multi-modal improvements are coming to 80th Ave south of 185th Street. The design phase has begun for a project to fill sidewalk gaps, add traffic calming measures, install crosswalks with flashing pedestrian beacons, narrow travel lanes, and provide high-quality buffered bike lanes. Expected delivery for this project is 2026, but a phased implementation of the bike lanes is already underway. Street parking on 80th Avenue south of 185th Street is being removed to make room for bike lanes. This will provide an immediate improvement for cyclists using 80th Avenue, as well as improved sight lines for drivers entering onto 80th Avenue from side streets and driveways. Initially, only signing and bicycle stencils are being installed, but more improvements are coming with the full project delivery in 2026.
