*My 2025 State of the City Address is next week! Come on our and join me on Thursday, March 20 at Kent-Meridian High School. *

Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. address starts at 7 p.m. At the event, I'll be sharing stories of the city's success, what we've accomplished and what's we can all look forward to in the future for our city.

Last week, the Kent City Council, Executive Leadership Team and I held our *Annual Strategic Planning Sessio*n.

We discussed city priorities and facilities, received an update on state legislation, and staff presented an update on homelessness and public safety.

We had so much fun at the *37th annual Kent Kids' Arts Day* event. Thank you to all over 1,000 attendees who spent the day crafting, playing, and connecting with us and 15 local artists and businesses.

I also want to thank all the amazing professionals who helped lead such imaginative crafts for our little artists.

Construction and a temporary closure continued on S 218th and 98th S last week for water main and sewer installation.

Crews were also working on installing underground power and fiber cables for the new East Hill Operations Center.

Residents of the 33rd Legislative District are invited to a Community Town Hall from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday, March 15 in Building 8 at Highline College, 2400 S. 240th St., in Des Moines.

Sen. Tina Orwall, Rep. Mia Gregerson and Rep. Edwin Obras, will be meeting with residents to answer questions.

Kent: A Visual Journey

Rachel E. Friedland has lived in Kent for over 20 years and will be available tomorrow, March 15 from 12 - 4 p.m. at the Kent Historical Museum for a book signing of her collection of images from Kent's history.

She has a bachelors degree in history from Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Washington, and a certificate in museum studies from Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois.

She has been an educator for five years and a volunteer at the Greater Kent Historical Society. Compiled from images from the Greater Kent Historical Society, the Museum of History and Industry, and the White River Valley Historical Museum, this book is a visual journey through the rich history of Kent. 



Annual Diaper Drive

Help us collect diapers and wipes for the 11th Annual March for Diapers Drive. During March, donate diapers and wipes at Kent City Hall during business hours.

Every year, the City of Kent joins other South King County cities in collecting diapers and wipes for babies in need.

We have set up a diaper corral in City Hall lobby to collect donations until March 28. We are asking for any child diapers preemie to size 6, as well as pullups and baby wipes. We will take half used packages too!

Two outstanding organizations that serve Kent that will receive donations from this drive are: Domestic Abuse Women's Network (DAWN) & Kent's Pediatric Interim Care Center (PICC

The next session of FEMA Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training starts Wednesday March 19. This free eight-week program meets on Wednesdays from either 1-4:30 p.m. (Afternoon Class) or 6 pm – 9:30 pm (Evening Class) and taught by Puget Sound Fire staff.

The 8-week program provides instruction on disaster preparedness, disaster first aid, triage, fire safety, search and rescue, disaster psychology and team organization and finished with a simulation exercise to practice all the skills they have learned.

It's almost curbside clean-up time! 

With Kent's annual "Spring and Fall Curbside Clean-up" programs, residents may rid themselves of extra yard waste and garbage.

The events are free to all residential households living in the Kent city limits. Park Shelter Rentals are now open for the 2025 season! Park Shelters are available to reserve from May 1 - September 30. The shelter at West Fenwick Park is available to reserve for groups to 25!
