Reconnecting to the Land: Indigenous Knowledge Systems Help Shape City of Seattle’s Native Plant Policy
For Coast Salish peoples, plants are more than resources: they are relatives, teachers, and the foundation of life. Since time immemorial, native plants have nourished bodies, healed communities, and built homes and canoes. Today, decades of land development, urbanization, and climate change have contributed to the destruction of habitat. In 2025, Seattle Parks and Recreation, working with the Indigenous Advisory Council, finalized updates to their Native Plant Policy by looking to Indigenous knowledge systems and to the people whose roots here run as deep as salal.

Celebrating Art, Nature, and Neighborhood at Destination Delridge
In these chaotic times, neighbors rely on nonprofits more than ever. Delridge Neighborhoods Development Association serves the community in three realms – art, nature, and neighborhood – and gathered supporters to celebrate at the *Destination Delridge* benefit on Friday, Oct. 3. They hosted a panel discussion on resilience, community support, and how to build generational wealth with District 1 City Councilmember Rob Saka, entrepreneur Feaven Berhe of Delridge café Hagosa’s House, and real-estate investor Jaebediah Gardner of GardnerGrowth.

Tasveer Film Festival Brings Movies, Masala Popcorn, and a 'Monumental' Experience
With the arrival of its 20th anniversary, South Asian arts organization Tasveer is ready to debut the Tasveer Film Center to the public during its annual film festival running Oct. 8–12. The festival features 109 films by South Asian filmmakers from 22 countries. This year's festivities will also feature the Tasveer Film Market, where filmmakers can pitch their films to studios. In March, Tasveer bought the building for $2.85 million, taking over the space once run by Ark Lodge Cinemas. This marked a huge shift for the future of the theater, which will now screen films by and for the South Asian diaspora.
