The Northshore Parks and Recreation Service Area Needs Your Input

The Northshore Parks and Recreation Service Area (NPRSA) is studying potential options for a new community center in northern King County. The NPRSA wants to creatively plan for a space that focuses on our local youth and that is inclusive of broader community needs. Before they can envision a new center or facility, they need to better understand community needs and desires, what programming it could include, what facilities it might have, and where it might be. Visit nprsawa.org [ http://nprsawa.org ] to learn more about their plans, take their survey [ https://nprsawa.org/youth-center-study ], and sign up for the email list.

City Council Will Not Go to Voters for a Ballot Measure in 2024

Over the past weeks, the City Council has been discussing Kenmore's financial future and potential ballot measure options for 2024. After reviewing options, the City Council voted 5-2 to not move forward with exploring a ballot measure in 2024.

This decision follows recommendations [ https://vmm0dj30.r.us-west-2.awstrack.me/L0/https:%2F%2Fkenmore.civicweb.net%2FFileStorage%2F625CD465CE8A4D0C843FB09727D85E03-City%2520of%2520Kenmore%2520FSP%2520City%2520Council%2520presentation.pdf/1/0101018fa1e63440-1c2803c9-8666-4c90-9956-dfc76e88c01a-000000/gb-tu8MvCS5WLkyWByW63stjGjM=376 ] that were recently presented to the City Council by the the community led Financial Sustainability Task Force. The Task Force was convened earlier this year to update the Financial Sustainability Plan [ https://vmm0dj30.r.us-west-2.awstrack.me/L0/https:%2F%2Fwww.kenmorewa.gov%2Fgovernment%2Fdepartments%2Ffinance-administration%2Ffinancial-sustainability-plan/1/0101018fa1e63440-1c2803c9-8666-4c90-9956-dfc76e88c01a-000000/h9HKH_zxwKlNywmb2Wz0CVWbIaA=376 ] and plan for an upcoming structural deficit in Kenmore's operating budget due to to the State's 1% limitation on property tax growth, larger than anticipated increases in public safety costs, and other factors. The City Council may still consider future ballot measures beyond 2024 to address the projected structural deficit.

New Rebates Slash EV Prices for Low-Income Residents

Starting in August, low-income Washingtonians can get behind the wheel of an electric vehicle [ https://lnks.gd/l/eyJhbGciOiJIUzI1NiJ9.eyJidWxsZXRpbl9saW5rX2lkIjoxMDMsInVyaSI6ImJwMjpjbGljayIsInVybCI6Imh0dHBzOi8vd3d3LmNvbW1lcmNlLndhLmdvdi9uZXdzL3JlYWR5LXNldC1kcml2ZS1lbGVjdHJpYy1zdGF0ZS1pbnN0YW50LXJlYmF0ZS1wcm9ncmFtLXRvLWhlbHAtbW9yZS1jb25zdW1lcnMtY2hvb3NlLWVsZWN0cmljLXZlaGljbGVzLz91dG1fbWVkaXVtPWVtYWlsJnV0bV9zb3VyY2U9Z292ZGVsaXZlcnkiLCJidWxsZXRpbl9pZCI6IjIwMjQwNDI2LjkzOTU3NjcxIn0.zNHSY--0W3vXn7mY04NZ_Na83n8Y8Ki7S1wciCIotNI/s/1174384549/br/241474885347-l ] for potentially as little as $56 per month. Gov. Jay Inslee and state Department of Commerce Director Mike Fong recently announced the nation-leading program that assists leases and purchases for thousands of low-income drivers to spur EV adoption. Washingtonians earning up to 300% of the federal poverty level ($45,180 for a single resident or $93,600 for a family of four) are eligible for huge discounts towards the purchase or lease of an EV. The program could bring down the cost of six popular EV models to less than $150 per month for qualified buyers.

Kenmore Police in the Community

*Kenmore Middle School Problem Solving Projects
*Kenmore Police had the pleasure of attending the final presentations made by a class of students at Kenmore Middle School who had developed ideas for solutions to specific issues in the community. The groups presented to Chief Moen on their creative ideas for solving these problems. Some of the problems they were addressing were hypothetical, but were very similar to issues encountered by Officers in Kenmore. We look forward to working with KMS staff and administration on future problem-solving projects during the next school year!

*Nurturing Trust Workshops
*Kenmore Police hosted three weeks of classes as part of our inaugural "Nurturing Trust" workshops. The workshops were focused on several current topics facing parents today, including drugs, domestic violence, gangs, etc. With the assistance of a translator, participants engaged in lively conversations on the topic each night. Held in conjunction with the Northshore School District, the workshops were hosted by Kenmore Police in our hopes to further engage and educate the community. Chief Moen attended the final workshop and assisted in handing out certificates and answering questions.
