Double the excellence: King County Metro celebrates Operators of the Year

Metro celebrated two “Operators of the Year” today, marking the rare occasion of two drivers being selected for the annual honor.

*Emmanuel “Manny” Bautista* and *Thulin Tolliver* were jointly honored as Metro’s 2023 Operators of the Year during a ceremony at the Central/Atlantic Base on Wednesday.

Metro riders and colleagues call them skilled, kind and amazing examples of public servants.

“Every day, their commitment to safety and reliable service stands out,” said King County Executive Dow Constantine. “Their dedication is a shining example of King County’s public service, always putting our residents first.”

Metro General Manager Michelle Allison expressed her excitement in celebrating the operators, highlighting their invaluable contributions to both the public and the agency.

She noted Tolliver threw a baby shower aboard her bus to celebrate two regular riders, a couple adopting their first child, and how carefully Bautista seated his customers with mobility challenges.

September 2024 update: Metro’s Fixed Assets State of Good Repair Program
View from the air of Seattle with Central base, Puget Sound and downtown

Metro is embarking on the next phases of a multi-year program to renew and replace vital infrastructure to maintain a high level of reliability, service and safety to its ridership and community. The program includes multiple transit maintenance bases and route facility improvements located across various Metro sites in King County. Funding is likely to include a mix of programmed King County local and grant funds.

Most of the program is currently envisioned to be delivered as bundles and packages of similar projects. Metro has recently updated project schedules based on changing services requirements and facility conditions. Preliminary project lists and schedules (subject to refinement) are described on the Metro Matters blog [ https://kingcountymetro.blog/2024/09/24/september-2024-update-metros-fixed-assets-state-of-good-repair-program/ ]. .

Committed to public service: Honoring the Ruth Woo Emerging Leaders Fellows
[ https://youtu.be/s7P2ubf7G24 ]

Join us in celebrating King County Metro’s Pauline Estrella, recently honored by the King County Council as one of several prestigious Ruth Woo Fellows.

Estrella worked with Metro staff on World Cup transportation planning and other efforts during her 2023-2024 fellowship.

Civic leader Ruth Woo recruited diverse leaders to serve in local government. King County’s Ruth Woo Fellowship continues to recruit the leaders of tomorrow.

Youth from disadvantaged communities are given the opportunity to explore public service work in a variety of County departments.

We extend our heartfelt congratulations and look forward to their continued contributions to building on Ruth Woo’s remarkable legacy.

Meet all of the fellows: Beza Ayele, Pauline Estrella, Madeleine Magana, Vincent Ruggio, and Ternia Wilson.
