The Medina Police Department is currently investigating a series of thefts from mailboxes around the 3200 block of Evergreen Point Road. The thefts likely occurred in the morning hours.

A high-quality locking mailbox is generally enough to deter criminals from stealing mail. However, even locking mailboxes can be broken into. A valuable service offered by the United States Postal Service is Informed Delivery® by USPS® [ https://informeddelivery.usps.com/box/pages/intro/start.action ]. This free service sends an email informing you of the mail that will be delivered to your mailbox that day. In the event that your mailbox is broken into and mail is stolen, you will at least be aware of any pieces of mail that may have identifying information about you or potentially valuable contents.

Ultimately, the most effective way to ensure the safety of the mail inside your mailbox is to _*retrieve your mail as soon as possible after it is delivered each** day.*_ Additionally, signing up for paperless options on all of your personal accounts eliminates the risk of the mail being stolen from your mailbox since it is delivered electronically to your email inbox.

We rely on you to be our eyes and ears when we cannot be everywhere at once in the community. We ask that anyone _*call 911*_ to report suspicious activity _*immediately*_ so that an officer can investigate. As a reminder, *suspicious activity* or behavior is anything that strikes you as wrong or unusual. Examples of suspicious activities by individual(s) include:

* Staying in the same place for a long time, in or out of a vehicle.
* Sitting in a vehicle observing an area closely.
* Driving around the same area frequently, speeding up or slowing down.
* Parking in front of mailboxes.

Medina Police Officers respond to all calls for service and are proactively patrolling the community at all times of day and night. When reporting suspicious activity to 911, please be as descriptive as possible. Suspicious behavior or activity does not always indicate ill intent or crime, but your observations can make a difference by helping to deter, prevent, or respond to crime.
