Raul Sanchez Poets
Raúl doesn’t fit the “One voice One guy” type. As the former City of Redmond Poet Laureate, 2019 – 2021, he included nature in his work in a Broad Way. Teaching bilingual poetry in Spanish and English through the Jack Straw Educational Project has given him a tremendous experience on human relations, age/culture, generational communications applying the experience acquired after years Mentor-volunteering for PONGO Teen Writing at the Juvenile Detention Center in Seattle proper. Working with traumatized teens, humans subjected to do what they were pushed to do, just to survive.
He runs the 'Poetry in the Park' bi-weekly public event, beginning on Thursday April 17th and every other Thursday until September 18th, 2025, at the Meadowbrook Pond in NE Seattle. Raul and his wife are avid walkers and travelers, hence the theme of Raul’s next book. Raul’s new voice is from culture, color, history and nature.
His newest collection 'When There Were No Borders' is as current as the current events. Released by Flower Song Press, McAllen, Texas, July 2021.

*Artist Statement:*
"I am 26 years old at the time of creation and exhibition of this piece, "Tentative. "The inspiration for this soft sculpture is quite personal. Its concept had been floating in my mind for many months, and foundationally coincided with an emotional journey involving my relationship with the potentiality of motherhood. My age is important here, as I have been firmly placed between two immediate, diverging paths.
Choosing whether I should or should not have kids has been existentially confounding to me. I have many desires that lie in each direction, and many fears, and many mixed emotions. Creating this soft sculpture from start to finish over the course of this internal discourse was a meditative exercise.
Embedded in the hand-sewn patches of this piece are pomelo membranes. These skins are representative of the body, of a tree bearing fruit, and of a fruit bearing seeds. Sewn in as quilt patches on a patterned skin, this amorphous sculptural form alludes to my nebulous thoughts on the topic of motherhood.” -Amanda Jenkinson

Beautifully crafted giant puppets are lightweight, articulated and illuminated - Made from reed, paper, Tyvek and silk. Engineered to be easy to move for play. The giant puppets are designed to delight children and adults. When children giggle, I have succeeded.” -Sarah Lovett

“My new piece, Weathervane for Brainstorms, was inspired by an antique ruler of my grandfather’s. I’ve always loved the old whimsical numbering on the worn wood and the intricate tiny brass hinge that opens and closes it. I’m making an enormous version that is sprouting tree roots and growing across the wall. It’s a playful piece, but also a means to continue a relationship with someone who has passed away.” - Sarah Fetterman
