*Today, Mayor Bruce Harrell released the 2025-2026 Proposed Budget.*

The budget reflects Mayor Harrell’s commitment to making needed investments and taking bold actions to address the urgent needs of our communities while advancing our *"One Seattle"* priorities. Mayor Harrell’s budget proposal remains focused on strengthening public safety, creating housing affordability, and supporting healthy, vibrant, and thriving communities. It also addresses a $251 million General Fund deficit necessitating difficult choices not faced in the past few budget cycles.

The proposed budget seeks to deliver meaningful progress while optimizing the use of limited resources toward key priorities and driving efficiencies. With the investments in this budget proposal, we can work together to advance a shared One Seattle vision and transportation services that inspire the best in our city and keep us moving forward.

From 2016 through the end of 2024, the voter approved Levy to Move Seattle [ https://www.seattle.gov/transportation/about-us/funding/levy-to-move-seattle/?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ] has provided approximately $103 million per year in transportation funding. The levy focused on improving safety for all travelers, maintaining our streets and bridges, and investing in reliable, affordable travel options for a growing city.

With the Levy to Move Seattle expiring at the end of this year, the City will no longer be collecting the approximately $103 million per year in revenue to support transportation. As a result, the Mayor’s Proposed Budget relies on the remaining available funding sources in 2025-2026. The budget proposal does not include the potential revenues from the Transportation Levy proposed by Mayor Harrell earlier this year.

*T**he proposed budget establishes a new baseline that continues to prioritize essential transportation programs, including:** *

* Safety: Vision Zero and Safe Routes to School

* Operations: Bridges, traffic signals, and major streets

* Maintenance: Major streets, traffic signals, trees, and signs

* Emergencies: Response to winter weather and other events

* Management: Right of way permitting and inspections

* Compliance: American Disabilities Act infrastructure upgrades

A new transportation levy will be on voters’ ballots in November, per Ordinance 127053 [ https://clerk.seattle.gov/search/council-bills/120788?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ]. Pending the outcome of this vote and future City Council action, the 2025-2026 Proposed Budget may be amended to reflect the availability of additional revenue.

*Next steps and communication about budget*

Over the next two months, the City Council will review the Mayor’s 2025-2026 Proposed Budget. Public hearings are on October 16 and November 12. The final adoption of the budget is expected on Thursday, November 21.
