Hello PAAC Members,

We have a brief reminder that we canceled our October 29 rescheduled PAAC meeting as we do not have any updates at this time for our ADA TWSI Pilot Project. We are actively recruiting members of the community to register and sign up for our TWSI Pilot.

We would like to share via this newsletter our regular ADA Program Updates:

*2024 Curb Ramp Delivery Summary*

* 1,363 curb ramps completed citywide via SDOT/permitted projects through the third quarter of 2024, including the following programs/projects:

* 111 CSR curb ramps built by ADA Program

* 779 curb ramps built by SDOT capital improvements projects

* 69 curb ramps built by other SDOT/coordinated projects

* 404 curb ramps built by third party permits (utilities, private development)

*Tactile Walking Surface Indicator (TWSI) Pilot Project Update*

The new tactile surface treatment, called the tactile warning delineator (as described below), is a trapezoid shaped treatment installed between a bike lake and sidewalk. There are also two crossing points at this site which leads people to the existing passenger loading zone. Participants will be asked to attempt to identify the tactile warning delineator, rate how well it is identifiable, state if it’s a treatment you would use as a navigation tool and discuss any other relevant information about tactile treatments and their locations in Seattle. Participants will be asked similar questions in regard to the truncated dome surfaces and the tactile directional indicators described below.

The new tactile elements were recently installed in the U District along Brooklyn Ave NE, next to NE 45th St.

These raised tactile surfaces are a relatively new development with no formal requirements in the United States, and they build on previous efforts we’ve undertaken in Seattle (read more in this previous blog post [ https://sdotblog.seattle.gov/2017/04/07/useful-guidance-tools-aka-directional-tactile-information/?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ]).

*Recruiting Participants*

Participants who qualify for the pilot study should expect to be available for up to 90 minutes and will be compensated with $60 in Safeway gift cards at the end of the testing session. Accessible accommodations, such as interpretation services, and other access needs are available by request in the sign-up form. Selected participants will receive a confirmation email including additional information such as an access map describing the site conditions and other pertinent information.
