What an absolute joy it was to welcome our incredible friends from our *sister city* [ https://www.kentwa.gov/guides/sister-cities?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ] Tamba to Kent!

Tamba, Japan is an agricultural community located in the Hyogo Prefecture, Kansai region north of Kobe.

The City of Kent has had a relationship with Tamba for almost 40 years, becoming an official Sister City in 1995.

This friendship organization was established initially to promote annual student exchanges. We spent some time earlier this week at Kherson Park and took some pictures in city hall!

The city, in partnership with the *National Development Council [ https://ndconline.org/about-us/?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ]*, has launched a Commercial Affordability grant program. Funding will cover *pre-development costs* for real estate projects that will support ownership or long-term lease *opportunities for small businesses*.

The program will focus on *catalytic projects*, such as mixed income or affordable housing projects in the city’s commuter rail transit areas and redevelopment of vacant or abandoned sites in high density, high need locations. Potential recipients are Kent small businesses or nonprofits, especially those operating in the key service delivery areas of early education, childcare, or food security.
