Happy New Year!

Welcome to the 2025 P-Patch Community Gardening season

You are receiving this email because you were previously subscribed to our citywide P-Patch listserv. We are no longer using listserv to communicate with the P-Patch community. Starting with this email, we will send regular e-newsletters with important information, announcements, and resources throughout the gardening season.

*"If you no longer wish to receive emails about the P-Patch program, you can unsubscribe by clicking the "unsubscribe" link at the bottom of this newsletter."*

What we accomplished together in 2024

A big “Thank You” to all the P-Patch gardeners who volunteered their time, grew to give, and welcomed new garden neighbors to their P-Patches!

* Gardeners volunteered… A LOT! *As of 12/13/24, 27,610.50 hours of volunteer time were completed & logged into the P-Patch database. *
* P-Patch Gardeners grew to give.* Our Giving Garden donation total for 2024 was 42,031 lbs of organic produce.* You can read more stories about P-Patchers growing to give in a recent post on the Seattle Department of Neighborhoods Front Porch Blog [ https://frontporch.seattle.gov/2025/01/15/p-patch-giving-gardens-donate-42031-pounds-of-produce-to-local-food-distribution-and-meal-programs/?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ]!
* *628 new gardeners were assigned a plot in 2024. Of these new gardeners, *17 were assigned accessible or partially accessible garden beds.

* *267 gardeners were assigned plots through the Priority Placement Program. *This Program helps place gardeners who identify as Black or African American, Indigenous/Native, Latinx or Hispanic, households making 30% or below Seattle area median income, immigrants or refugees, people who need to garden in an accessible raised bed (accessible gardens [ https://www.seattle.gov/documents/Departments/Neighborhoods/PPatch/2020-Accessible-Garden-Map.pdf?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ]), and organizations that serve seniors or children and youth (up to age 24).

* We continued to prioritize language access for our gardeners. *This year we welcomed gardeners whose primary language is Amharic, Arabic, Cantonese, Khmer, Mandarin, Mien, Oromo, Spanish, Tigrinya, and Vietnamese. *

* The P-Patch program offers plot fee assistance so that plot fees are not a barrier to participation. *In 2024 744 low-income families received plot fee assistance totaling $62,977.30. *

Announcements

Plot renewals open in February/March 2025

Our 2025 renewal season takes place between February and March. Gardeners will receive an email announcement from P-Patch Staff when their P-Patch opens for renewal in the online database. Staff are available to assist with P-Patch account access or other issues. Gardeners have 2 weeks to complete the renewal process after receiving their garden renewal announcement email.

*We continue to request online payments with a credit card.* Seattle Department of Neighborhoods service counter remains closed. We will not be accepting cash, checks, or in-person payments. Plot fee assistance is available if needed. Gardeners without email can anticipate receiving a call directly from their P-Patch staff person. A gardener survey will be included in the application process this year.

Neighborhood Matching Fund is a granting program that consists of two funds – the Community Partnership Fund (CPF) and the Small Sparks Fund (SSF) – which support grassroots projects that build stronger communities.

The purpose of the Food Equity Fund is to invest in community-led work that contributes to an equitable and sustainable local food system. Through the Food Equity Fund Grant and Starter Fund, this program supports work led by those who experience the most food and health inequities in Seattle.
