The RapidRide J Line project will bring significant improvements to the University District, Eastlake, South Lake Union, and Belltown neighborhoods. These enhancements will make it easier to commute, attend classes at the University of Washington, access medical care, or visit local businesses by creating a more efficient and convenient travel experience across these key areas of the city.

Our focus is on modernizing and maintaining reliable transit connections for Seattle’s growing communities. We will improve roads, sidewalks, curb ramps, lighting, drainage, and traffic signals. Additionally, we will install protected bike lanes and replace the watermain on Eastlake Ave E. These enhancements are essential for supporting local businesses, improving access to housing, and fostering vibrant, connected communities.

Here's what is included in this email update:

* Stormwater Work on Eastlake Ave E
* Utility Verification
* Construction and Online Drop-In Sessions Resume

Stormwater Work on Eastlake Ave E

Stormwater drainage replacement work is progressing north along Eastlake Ave E from E Howe St to E Newton Street. As soon as next week, the work will require us to close E Newton St at the intersection on the west side of Eastlake Ave E. Local access will be permitted from Yale Ave E. Vehicles will also be prevented from turning northbound from Yale Ave E onto Eastlake Ave E during this portion of our work. This work requires us to dig trenches, install new drainage pipes, and connect inlets where needed. Nearby businesses and residences will notice additional noise and vibration.

We recently finished putting down temporary pavement between E Blaine St and Fairview Ave E. This will allow traffic to use this side of the road while we work on the other side in the coming weeks.

Stormwater work will continue to progress north to E Lynn St. Completion of the stormwater work at E Lynn St will conclude the mainline stormwater work, and we will then shift our focus towards the installation of inlets and connections to the main line.

Utility Verification

We are continuing our efforts to verify the location of underground utilities. Vacuum trucks will be seen weekdays on Eastlake Ave E, Fairview Ave N and soon into downtown. Please be prepared for detours while walking, riding bikes, or using scooters. Additionally, there may be some noise and vibrations as we complete this work.

At this time we are completing utility verification work at the following locations:

*

Eastlake Ave E at E Lynn St, E Hamlin St and E Allison St.

*

Fairview Ave N at Valley St, Aloha St, Ward St and Yale Ave N.
