This is a career service exempt position which serves at the pleasure of the hiring authority. The Major is a uniformed employee of management rank assigned to serve in a leadership capacity. This position oversees all the daily detention operations of the Maleng Regional Justice Center (MRJC).
 
The Major is a change agent and leads business operations and employees by exercising fundamental leadership competencies; serves as a role model for subordinates and the public; monitors and influences budget decisions, and addresses challenging operational practices and staffing plans to ensure efficiency. The position also assures that day-to-day operations are coordinated with other agency partners whose work intersects with DAJD. The Major reviews all written staff reports to identify potential performance deficiencies and takes proper corrective action when necessary. The Major demonstrates each of the county-wide values, department mission and vision, strategic plans, guiding principles, core values, and promotes the county and department commitment to equity and anti-racism.
 
Additionally, the Major serves as the PREA Compliance Manager for their assigned division. The Major will also set and monitor facility goals and objectives and participate in or chair a variety of committees regarding Department issues and is a member of the Department's Senior Management team. This position may be assigned to either facility and will work under the supervision of a Facility Commander.
