Construction is Coming Soon to South Park!

We are also excited to announce that the permanent South Park Healthy Street [ https://www.seattle.gov/transportation/projects-and-programs/programs/healthy-streets/south-park-healthy-street?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ] will be installed as soon as Fall 2024!

*A big thank you* to all the neighbors who requested planters for signs in the intersections near their homes. You should have already been contacted to confirm locations and complete signed maintenance agreements.

We recently installed permanent signage on Othello-Rainier Beach Healthy Street!

We recently installed permanent signage with a concrete block base and newly painted curb space around it at each intersection along the Othello-Rainier Beach Healthy Street. At intersections where neighbors requested planters [ https://www.seattle.gov/transportation/projects-and-programs/programs/healthy-streets/healthy-street-planters?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ], we installed the permanent signage with a planter sign base. Unauthorized on-street parking located within 20 feet of the intersection [ https://www.seattle.gov/documents/Departments/SDOT/ParkingProgram/CanIParkHereBrochure.pdf?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ] was removed for the permanent sign installation. In addition, we installed safety enhancements at five locations along the Healthy Street. We also added 12 creative street art designs developed by Dunlap Elementary and South Shore PK-8 students as part of the Bike to Books Program [ https://www.seattle.gov/transportation/projects-and-programs/safety-first/safe-routes-to-school/bike-to-books?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ]!

As part of this permanent Othello and Rainier Beach Healthy Street we will be installing a mural by local artist Damon Brown!

Construction on the Lake City – Cedar Park Healthy Street [ https://www.seattle.gov/transportation/projects-and-programs/programs/healthy-streets/lake-city-healthy-street?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ] is substantially complete!

At intersections where neighbors requested planters [ https://www.seattle.gov/transportation/projects-and-programs/programs/healthy-streets/healthy-street-planters?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ], we installed the permanent signage with a planter sign base, and we hosted a plant pickup event to help them get started with a few flowers or herbs! We also added all-way stops to the two intersections at 37th Ave NE and NE 135th St.

Mt Baker-Columbia City-Hillman City Healthy Street Update

We are proceeding towards permanent design on the northern Mt Baker and southern Hillman City segments, while we continue to evaluate and conduct outreach in Columbia City.

Recently, we made several spot improvements and materials upgrades on the Columbia City segment in response to community outreach there. This included replacing temporary signs with upgraded concrete bases and establishing All-Way Stop control at three Neighborhood Greenway intersections.

The photos below show the importance of new signage and daylighting of intersections for the ability to see where people walking, rolling, and biking may be as drivers approach. For more information on these changes, please visit the project webpage [ https://lnks.gd/l/eyJhbGciOiJIUzI1NiJ9.eyJidWxsZXRpbl9saW5rX2lkIjoxMDIsInVyaSI6ImJwMjpjbGljayIsInVybCI6Imh0dHBzOi8vd3d3LnNlYXR0bGUuZ292L3RyYW5zcG9ydGF0aW9uL3Byb2plY3RzLWFuZC1wcm9ncmFtcy9wcm9ncmFtcy9oZWFsdGh5LXN0cmVldHMvcmFpbmllci12YWxsZXktbm9ydGg_dXRtX21lZGl1bT1lbWFpbCZ1dG1fc291cmNlPWdvdmRlbGl2ZXJ5IiwiYnVsbGV0aW5faWQiOiIyMDI0MDgwMS45ODQ2MzA3MSJ9.6BnW75P3oy0HT_2xue3CqFMHZcLx78AxF6DEOKCZkwM/s/3078547070/br/246785382611-l?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ]!

Play on Your Healthy Street

Healthy Streets are open year-round for Seattleites to walk, bike, roll, and play! As we head into summer, remember that you can turn your Healthy Street into a closed Play Street [ https://www.seattle.gov/transportation/projects-and-programs/programs/healthy-streets/healthy-streets-play-streets?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ] without applying for a Street Use permit. Any existing Healthy Street can become a one-block, pedestrian-only Play Street, perfect for hosting neighborhood events like end of the school year parties, a block party, a holiday celebration, a Pride event, or a place for kids to play a game of soccer or street hockey.
