King County Councilmember Pete von Reichbauer's monthly “Good Eggs” breakfasts are always educational.
On Wednesday, we heard from CEO of UW Medicine Dr. Timothy Dellit. He discussed how the pandemic affected South King County, improving the health population they serve, and improving care in underserved communities.

Earlier this week, it was a pleasure to welcome Ukrainian parliament Andriy Zhupanin and Anna Purtova, and Ukrainian representative Valeriy V. Goloborodko for a quick stop at Kent City Hall! They provided some updates on what's taking place in their city.
Back in June 2022, we signed a memorandum of agreement declaring an Intent to Explore the Establishment of a Sister City Relationship.
The Sister City relationship is intended to: Increase citizens’ awareness and understanding of each other’s culture. Encourage educational opportunities and contribute to the development of trade and tourism. Share information regarding best practices in the provision of city services, public safety, economic development, utilities, environmental preservation, technology, and public relations.

Budget Adopted
________________________________________________________________________
budget
Since the Kent City Council's unanimous adoption of the 2024 Mid-Biennial Budget adjustment, our team has been working on content to help keep you and other residents informed about where all that money comes from, and what it's going toward.
There is a tremendous demand for city services in Kent.
Our job as city leaders and public servants is to remain fiscally responsible, anticipate future challenges and keep our city moving forward. This budget accomplishes all of these objectives.

police cams
The Kent Police Department is on the forefront of transparency and accountability in law enforcement.
With funding from revenues generated by newly installed red-light cameras, in-car cameras will be installed in patrol vehicles.
The in-car cameras will enhance officer and public safety and provide greater investigative abilities for filing cases. The budget adjustment also includes a new Prosecutor and Public Disclosure Analyst which will be necessary due to the increase workload.
________________________________________________________________________
The Community Court program at the Kent Municipal Court holds participants accountable while offering resources and support to establish stability.
This program will be bolstered by settlement funds from opioid litigation: a lawsuit against drug companies that misled the public. The budget adjustment also includes a Resource Coordinator position to help support the program and direct offenders to resources.

planner
Earlier this year, we launched an initiative to update the Kent Comprehensive Plan.
Bills passed during this year's state legislative session relating to planning, housing and other land-use issues have impacted this process. To meet new requirements, additional staffing is needed.
The budget adjustment includes a term-limited Planner position, funded by grants, to assist our Long-Range Planning team.

The 2024 Mid-Biennium Budget Adjustment includes a pilot program to provide contracted security at popular parks in Kent.
Our goal for this investment is to improve safety for residents and visitors.
These locations include Lake Meridian Park, Van Doren's Landing Park, Hogan Park and West Fenwick Park.

traffic
As the city continues to deploy new traffic signals and existing signals are impacted by wire theft and vandalism, additional staffing has become necessary.
The 2024 Mid-Biennium Budget Adjustment includes the addition of one Traffic Signal Technician to address ongoing needs for maintenance and repairs.

The 2024 Mid-Biennium Budget Adjustment allocates grant funding to an ongoing partnership with Uplift NW to provide litter removal and sanitation services in specified areas in Kent.
Uplift NW connects job training, dignified work opportunities, and support services to men and women experiencing poverty and homelessness.
This funding will extend the program for an additional three years.

Spotlight Series
________________________________________________________________________
queens cartoonist
The 2023-2024 Spotlight Series is underway! The Queen’s Cartoonists perform music from cartoons! Pulling from over 100 years of animation, TQC’s performances are perfectly synchronized to the films projected on stage.
The band matches the energy of the cartoons, leading the audience through a world of virtuosic musicianship, multi-instrumental mayhem, and comedy.
Projections of animated films dazzle the audience, while the band re-creates original soundtracks note-for-note, or writes their own fresh compositions to modern pieces, all the while breathing new life into two uniquely American forms of art: jazz and animation.
Tying everything together is the TQC brand of comedy - anecdotes about the cartoons and their composers, stream-of-consciousness humor, and elements of a musical circus. Get tickets and *see the line-up of performances for the 2024 season online! [ https://www.kentwa.gov/departments/kent-parks/arts/spotlight-series?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ]*
