Our RapidRide J Line project will make it easier and more convenient for you to get around the University District, Eastlake, South Lake Union, and Belltown. Whether you’re commuting to work, heading to class at the University of Washington, visiting the doctor, or shopping at local businesses, these upgrades will help you travel faster and more reliably.

As part of the project, we’ll upgrade streets, sidewalks, pedestrian ramps, streetlights, and traffic signals. We’ll also add protected bike lanes and replace the water main on Eastlake Ave E. These upgrades will support our local businesses, make it easier for you to get to housing, and help create safer, more connected neighborhoods for everyone.

Harvard Ave E Closure
Map of the closure at Harvard Ave E

"A map of the full closure on Harvard Ave E between Eastlake Ave E and E Allison St.  "

On Saturday morning, we will close Harvard Ave E between Eastlake Ave E and E Allison St to install a new water main. Local access to driveways and residential buildings will still be available. During this detour, we are reopening Eastlake Ave E and E Allison St to traffic in both directions. However, there will be no loading zones or parking open on E Allison St. To improve safety and assist people traveling in the area, we have modified the traffic signal at E Allison St and Eastlake Ave E.

University District Road Paving

We will begin paving in the University District as early as the last week of April. During this time, crews will work on NE 43rd St between Roosevelt Way NE and 11th Ave NE. You can expect noise, dust, and vibrations. More information on potential road closures and detours will be provided soon.

For more information on bus stop relocations during these closures, please visit King County Metro’s website [ https://us-west-2.protection.sophos.com/?d=govdelivery.com&h=bff1318180974e128611d5c507c378fa&i=NjY3MGI3MWI0MmUyN2U1M2FhNzA3MDcy&p=m&s=AVNPUEhUT0NFTkNSWVBUSVbl_TJuflgMLM9sNZKcSEw1ELJw3erXr5XRR3GLgMEGjw&t=WVdYcHFQa3k1ZXF6ZmhTOGM1TzgzVUt4U2dEU0JKWCtEVEZnTFBNbmdoVT0%3D&u=aHR0cHM6Ly9saW5rcy0xLmdvdmRlbGl2ZXJ5LmNvbS9DTDAvaHR0cHM6JTJGJTJGa2luZ2NvdW50eS5nb3YlMkZlbiUyRmRlcHQlMkZtZXRybyUzRnV0bV9tZWRpdW09ZW1haWwlMjZ1dG1fc291cmNlPWdvdmRlbGl2ZXJ5LzIvMDEwMDAxOTY0MDljNzc2YS04MGViMGE3Yy03YWEyLTRmNDUtOTc4My1lYTMwZDIxNTk3ZWMtMDAwMDAwL0hsbWdJaEpoNnRNa1otemNWRUNFeVBOczBlWjhxcElNaUdZMFB5RThVUUU9NDAx&utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ].

Traffic on Eastlake Ave E will be shifted to the west side during this work. Please note that the dates below may change based on construction progress.

Approximate closure dates:

* E Blaine St: April 17 – 21
* E Howe St: April 21 – 25

We are coordinating our work so that we will not interfere with your plans to visit the Boats Afloat Show [ https://boatsafloatshow.com/?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ] in South Lake Union from Friday, April 25 to Sunday, April 27. The show features a wide variety of experiences, including boat tours, seminars, live music, and activities for all ages.
