The Medina Police Department was recently notified that multiple individuals were contacted by someone pretending to be a member of several local police agencies, including the Medina Police Department and the King County Sheriff's Office. The person pretending to be law enforcement informed the individuals that they were involved in recent criminal activity in a likely attempt to solicit money or personal information. The phone number the individual calls from and asks for a call back to is (425) 426-0121, the voicemail message to which belongs to "Sergeant Sims of the King County Sheriff's Office." Scammers will utilize one number until it has been exhausted, then change their number to another number with a local area code to appear more legitimate.

There are several schemes involved with this type of scammer. Usually, the scammer will demand that you purchase prepaid gift cards and provide the caller with the card number with the PIN. In other circumstances, the caller will attempt to obtain your personal and financial information with the hopes of committing fraud and identify theft.

No police department will ever contact you requesting money. If you are ever unsure about a contact from the Medina Police, immediately contact us directly by calling the numbers listed below this bulletin.

If you receive a similar call or have any doubts about a communication claiming to be from a police agency, *do not provide any personal or financial information.* If you have any questions or concerns after hanging up on the scammer, please feel free to call 911 or the police business line listed below.
