Upcoming ORCA fare changes effective Sept 1 and Oct 1, 2025

Fare Change

Regional transit agencies are making fare updates starting *September 1 and October 1*, affecting several services across King County and Kitsap County. 

*Effective September 1:* 


* *King County Metro bus (Adult):* Increasing from *$2.75 to $3.00* 

* *Seattle Streetcar (Adult):* Increasing from *$2.25 to $3.00* 

* *Water Taxi – West Seattle (Adult):* Increasing from *$5.00 to $5.25* 

* *Water Taxi – Vashon (Adult):* Increasing from *$5.75 to $6.00* 

* *Water Taxi – ORCA LIFT:* Reduced to *$1.00* (from $3.75 on West Seattle and $4.50 on Vashon) 

*Effective October 1:* 


* *Kitsap Transit Fast Ferry – Westbound (Adult):* Increasing from *$12.00 to $13.00* 

* *Kitsap Transit Fast Ferry – Westbound (Reduced Fare: LIFT, Senior, Disabled):* Increasing from *$6.00 to $6.50*

Construction impacts: I-5 lane closures underway

Construction Impacts

WSDOT has closed two lanes on northbound I-5 in Seattle to perform essential bridge expansion joint and roadway repairs. These closures are affecting traffic throughout the region with major delays—especially during peak hours. If you travel this corridor, plan ahead. Consider alternate routes or use transit to avoid congestion and reduce stress. Metro and regional partners are coordinating to keep riders informed and moving smoothly. 

Here’s what to expect: 


* Two northbound lanes across the Ship Canal Bridge closed *24/7* for the duration of the project 

* Northbound Express Lanes remain *open 24/7* from July 18 to August 18 to help traffic flow 

* All northbound lanes closed again from *Friday night, August 15* through *Monday morning, August 18* to remove the work zone

Metro and ATU 587 recommit to safety

Metro and ATU 587 recommit to safety

Since the first meeting in March 2025, King County Metro and ATU Local 587 have reconvened their joint Safety Task Force to put a renewed focus on operator and rider safety. The task force brings together frontline staff, management, and union leadership to identify and implement solutions that make transit safer and more supportive. Their work includes exploring new training, enforcement, and design strategies that prioritize safety while maintaining efficient service for riders.

Improvements proposed for King County Metro Routes 21 and 50

Improvements proposed

Metro is proposing safety and reliability improvements for Routes 21 and 50 to better serve riders in West Seattle and Southeast Seattle. The changes aim to address delays, improve accessibility, and enhance connections to light rail and RapidRide lines. The proposal includes stop relocations, intersection upgrades, and other updates to support smoother, more predictable service. Metro proposes route improvements in South King County

Feedback requested for Washington State Ferries fare change proposal

State Ferries

The Washington State Transportation Commission (WSTC) recently published a fare change proposal [ https://wstc.wa.gov/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/2025-27-ferry-fare-proposal.pdf ] for all Washington State Ferries routes. The proposal includes general ferry fare adjustments for vehicles and passengers, multi-ride pass adjustments, and summer “peak” season surcharge adjustments. Changes are anticipated to take place on October 1, 2025 and May 1, 2026. WSTC will be collecting feedback through August 5 and will host a virtual public hearing on August 6.
