Winter Weather Update

The National Weather Service is monitoring storm activity in our area that has resulted in numerous watches and warnings being issued throughout the region. The forecast for our immediate area calls for rain, snow above 400' in elevation, and very cold temperatures starting today and continuing through the weekend. This mix of precipitation and rapidly falling temperatures can lead to flash freezes, especially Thursday afternoon and evening.

As a reminder, please try to limit your exposure to freezing temperatures, wear multiple layers of warm clothing when outdoors, and feel free to use public areas (such as the Hanger in Kenmore and Town Center complex in Lake Forest Park) to get warm during regular business hours if needed. See below for additional winter weather resources.

The City Public Works team has been busy preparing for upcoming winter weather by procuring de-icer and getting the plows ready for action. If snow falls in the coming days, city crews will work around the clock on our roads according to our snow response removal priorities map [ https://www.kenmorewa.gov/home/showpublisheddocument/1744/638404989273301109 ]. Designated citywide priority routes are cleared first to accommodate emergency response, main arterials, and bus routes.

NEMCo Partners with Police Departments to Institute Winter Weather Wellness Checks

"By Kevin Lowery – NEMCo Emergency Manager"

The Northshore Emergency Management Coalition (NEMCo) is excited to announce that it is partnering with the Cities of Kenmore and Lake Forest Park, as well as their respective Police Departments, to institute a new Winter Weather Wellness Check program. Running from now until March 1st, this program is designed to proactively engage with community members who feel especially at-risk or otherwise in need during the cold winter months.

Modelled after the existing vacant house check program, interested persons will be able to register with the city [ https://www.kenmorewa.gov/services/emergency-preparedness/winter-wellness ] to receive wellness check phone calls and/or in-person visits, depending on anticipated weather conditions. For anyone without access to the internet, signup forms will be available at City Hall. While the in-person visits will mostly be conducted by police officers, trained NEMCo volunteers will be tasked with making phone calls checking on the health and wellbeing of registered community members.

Please share this information with any family members or neighbors who you think may benefit from this program. Learn more at www.kenmorewa.gov/winterwellness [ https://www.kenmorewa.gov/services/emergency-preparedness/winter-wellness ]
