Stay Informed: 15th Ave NE & NE 105th St Bridge Seismic Retrofit

*We’re making the **15th Ave NE/NE 105th St Bridge* [ https://www.seattle.gov/transportation/projects-and-programs/programs/bridges-stairs-and-other-structures/bridges/15th-ave-ne-bridge-seismic-retrofit/?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ]* stronger and less vulnerable in the event of an earthquake. We expect the project to be finished in summer 2026. *

*Upcoming Bridge Closure: Tuesday, April 14, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.*

Two workers in neon safety gear use drills to install wooden concrete forms around the base of tall, vertical bridge columns.

Two construction crew members install wooden forms that concrete will be poured into at the base of the bridge.

What's going on?

*Upcoming Bridge Closure*

* Crews will *close the 15th Ave NE/NE 105th St bridge from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, April 14, *to pour another concrete column as they continue work on the bridge to make it better withstand earthquakes.
* These columns are vertical supports at both sides of each horizontal crossbeam that stabilize the bridge and connect it to the ground.

*How Will This Work Impact You?*

* Driveways on 15th Ave NE between NE 104th St and NE 105th St will remain accessible.
* People walking or using mobility devices can still cross the bridge during full closures.

*Progress Update*

* *Crossbeam retrofits:* Crews have begun retrofits to the final crossbeam. In preparation for this work, they are installing new concrete on the columns at both sides of the crossbeam.
* After this column reinforcement is complete, they’ll place reinforcing bars, build concrete forms, and pour this final concrete crossbeam between the reinforced bridge columns.
* Crossbeams are horizontal supports that connect to the vertical parts of the bridge, adding stability and strength.

* *Footing retrofits*: Crews are making progress on footing retrofits, including piling and concrete placement under the bridge.
* Piling involves installing long, slender columns called piles, as well as H-shaped steel beams called soldier piles, into the ground at the base of the bridge.
* These retrofits to the bridge footing will enhance stability and the bridge's ability to withstand seismic events.
* We expect this work will be complete as soon as summer 2026.

Important Reminders

*Lane closures on 15th Ave NE at the bridge*

* Crews are intermittently closing one lane of the bridge as needed during work hours to make space for construction equipment and materials.

* A flagger will be on site during the day to direct traffic through closures.

* Crews may fully close the bridge at least once a month.
* These closures won’t block driveways on 15th Ave NE between NE 104th St and NE 105th St.
* People walking or using mobility devices can still use the bridge during full closures.

*What to Expect During Construction*

* Access to homes will stay open. If we need to block a driveway, we’ll notify you ahead of time.
* One sidewalk on 15th Ave NE at the bridge will stay open at all times.
* Crews will work in public areas near homes and businesses.
* On-street parking won’t be available throughout the project.
* Expect typical construction impacts like noise, dust, vibrations, and equipment on site.
* Work hours are 7 AM to 5 PM.
