*Winter Weather Updates: Wellness Checks, Shelter Information, and Thanks to the Public Works Team
*


* Due to persistent overnight low temperatures and the potential for lowland snow in the forecast [ https://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?lat=47.7582&lon=-122.2478 ], King County Regional Homelessness Authority has activated Severe Weather Response Protocols through Friday, February 14. Visit their website to find overnight and daytime shelter information [ https://kcrha.org/resources/severe-weather-shelter/ ] or call the Shelter Navigation Hotline open at (206) 245-1026.
* The Extreme Weather Wellness Check [ https://www.kenmorewa.gov/services/emergency-preparedness/winter-wellness ] program is available to Kenmore residents as a way to proactively engage with members of the community who feel in need of assistance during the cold winter months. Anyone can sign up for the Winter Wellness Check program which allows NEMCo volunteers to check in during extreme temperatures to see if there are any needs to address. *Join Kenmore in Celebrating Black History Month: February 2025
*February 2025 has been proclaimed [ https://kenmore.civicweb.net/document/260680/ ] Black History Month in Kenmore by the City Council. Black History Month recognizes and pays tribute to the many enhancements and advancements that Black and African Americans have contributed to our history, society, and culture, both nationally and locally. It also recognizes the discrimination and inequalities that Black and African Americans have continuously faced while shaping our society and strengthening our nation. Here are a few ways you can participate, this month and all year long:

*Kenmore Air and Nancy Ousley Receive John D. Spellman Awards for Historic Preservation*
King County Executive Dow Constantine recently announced the winners of the 23rd annual John D. Spellman Awards [ https://kingcounty.gov/en/dept/dnrp/about-king-county/about-dnrp/newsroom/2025-news-releases/02-06-spellman-awards ], the region’s highest honor for historic preservation.

This year’s award winners include family-owned Kenmore Air [ https://kenmoreair.com/ ] for its contributions to the City of Kenmore and its vital role in connecting King County to the greater Pacific Northwest since 1946. Also honored is Nancy Ousley, Kenmore's former Assistant City Manager, who won for her distinguished career in public service, leaving a legacy of rehabilitated landmarks, thriving businesses, and vibrant public spaces.

Executive Constantine led a celebration for award winners at the Kenmore Community Club, co-hosted by the Kenmore Heritage Society and King County’s Historic Preservation Program. *Love Notes: Join Thoughtful Citizens Valentine Card Making For Seniors February 8
*Join Thoughtful Citizens [ https://www.facebook.com/ThoughtfulCitizensWA ] on Saturday, February 8 from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. at the Hangar to make valentines cards for senior citizens [ https://www.facebook.com/events/1344833233345202 ]! The cards will be delivered to local retirement and assisted living communities. All supplies will be provided, but participants are encouraged to contribute card stock and stickers. This is a free, grassroots community effort that is open to all ages and abilities.
