*New Planning Commissioners Appointed for 2025
*On October 21 [ https://kenmore.civicweb.net/document/258458/ ], the City Council selected new Planning Commissioners to begin serving in 2025. Returning Commissioner Mike Vanderlinde will join new Commissioners Kara Macias and Edouard Lasalle, who bring experience in areas such as urban planning, environmental sustainability, and community engagement. At the end of the year, Commissioners Derek Wyckoff and Saad Qadri will be stepping down from their roles. Their dedication, hard work, and vision have played a crucial role in shaping Kenmore over the last several years. The City deeply appreciates their service and the lasting impact they have made, and looks forward to welcoming the new commissioners in 2025.

**Celebrate Dia de los Muertos this Saturday at the Hangar*
*On November 2, Kenmore's DEIA [ https://www.kenmorewa.gov/government/departments/human-resources/diversity-equity-and-inclusion ] Advisory Committee is hosting a Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) Community Celebration [ https://www.kenmorewa.gov/Home/Components/Calendar/Event/2528/102 ] at the Hangar from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Día de los Muertos is a traditional Mexican holiday in which people connect with their deceased loved ones by setting up an altar, or "ofrenda", with the food, drinks, toys, and other items their loved ones enjoyed. The event will feature mariachi music, a Mexican food truck, arts and crafts for families including sugar skulls, papel picado, traditional skull face painting, and a community "ofrenda" that guests can decorate with memories of the loved ones they have lost. The event will end with a screening of the delightful Academy Award-winning Pixar film Coco, beginning at 1 p.m. "This event is free to attend and open to all!"

*Warning Period Starts November 2 for Expanded Photo Enforcement*
The City Council recently voted to expand the Kenmore Automated Photo Enforcement (KAPE [ https://links-2.govdelivery.com/CL0/https:%2F%2Fwww.kenmorewa.gov%2Fgovernment%2Fdepartments%2Fpublic-works%2Fengineering%2Fautomated-photo-enforcement/2/0101019259568b85-cb54e031-0623-401e-a305-30dca178e3c0-000000/NNhgd6Q2nQ4IkxPGlkh3IQjHvd-Eq41Jxx89oGP4qfc=373 ]) program. This expansion introduces several key changes [ https://links-2.govdelivery.com/CL0/https:%2F%2Fwww.kenmorewa.gov%2FHome%2FComponents%2FNews%2FNews%2F389%2F301/1/0101019259568b85-cb54e031-0623-401e-a305-30dca178e3c0-000000/OKdc_fR0A0YDjGxRk9S5-3n6pG7rb1jkLpo4liGe5Wc=373 ] aimed at enhancing traffic safety.
Photo enforcement will now apply 24/7 in the Kenmore Elementary School Zone on 73rd Avenue and also the Arrowhead Elementary school zone on Juanita Drive. This means drivers can receive a ticket anytime they are exceeding the regular speed limit of 30 mph, even when school zones are inactive. The existing 20 mph limit will still be enforced when schools are in session.
*On Saturday, November 2, a warning period for the new enforcement measures will begin. During this period, drivers exceeding the speed limit will receive warnings instead of fines. Fines for speeding violations in these school zones will begin on January 1, 2025.*
The City Council also approved adding photo enforcement to the Inglemoor High School zone. This new enforcement location does not yet have a confirmed timeline, but a warning period is planned to begin in early 2025.
