*Stay Informed: **Admiral Way North and South Bridges Seismic Project*
Two construction workers wearing safety gear sand and prepare the metal railing on a bridge surrounded by tall trees.
Crews prepare the bridge railing surface, an important first step before painting (July 2025).
*We’re making the Admiral Way North and South Bridges [ https://www.seattle.gov/transportation/projects-and-programs/programs/bridges-stairs-and-other-structures/bridges/sw-admiral-way-bridge-retrofit?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ] stronger and less vulnerable in the event of an earthquake. We expect the project to be finished in summer 2025. *
________________________________________________________________________
*What’s Happening Now: What You Need to Know*
*Here’s what the crews are working on:*
* Painting the handrails to protect them and keep them looking great.
* Installing fencing along the east side of the bridge area for added safety.
* Repairing cracks under the bridge deck. While these cracks don’t affect the bridge’s structure, fixing them is important to keep the bridge in good condition and extend its lifespan.
*Upcoming work:*
*
Crews will complete minor repairs to a section of the north handrail.
*
Crews will install a "shear key" —a component that helps prevent movement from seismic forces, such as earthquakes— to improve the bridge’s durability.
*What to expect during construction*
* Crews will work in public areas near homes and businesses.
* Expect construction impacts like noise, dust, vibrations, and equipment on site.
* Typical work hours are 7 AM to 5 PM, Monday through Friday.
*Important Reminders*
*Admiral Way SW (on top of the bridge) *
* A sidewalk remains open for people walking, biking, and using mobility devices.
* The work zone will change from time to time over the next several weeks, but we’re keeping at least one lane of Admiral Way SW open in each direction.
*Fairmount Ave SW to Remain Closed (below the bridge)*
* Fairmount Ave SW under the bridge will remain closed to people walking, biking, rolling, and driving until the end of construction. This closure keeps everyone safe and helps our crews work efficiently.
