"Crews pour new concrete on NE 43rd St. "

Our RapidRide J Line project will make it easier and more convenient for you to get around the University District, Eastlake, South Lake Union, and Belltown. Whether you’re commuting to work, heading to class at the University of Washington, visiting the doctor, or shopping at local businesses, these upgrades will help you travel faster and more reliably.

As part of the project, we’ll upgrade streets, sidewalks, pedestrian ramps, streetlights, and traffic signals. We’ll also add protected bike lanes and replace the water main on Eastlake Ave E. These upgrades will support our local businesses, make it easier for you to get to housing, and help create safer, more connected neighborhoods for everyone.

University District Construction

*University District Paving and Electrical Work*

We continue to pave NE 43rd St. From May 30 to June 1, we will pave the section of roadway between alley entrances on the north and south sides of NE 43rd St between Roosevelt Way NE and 11th Ave NE. This will require us to temporarily close the alley entrances on NE 43rd St.

Once we finish working between Roosevelt Way NE and 11th Ave, we will pave the section of NE 43rd St in front of the alley entrances between 11th Ave NE and 12th Ave NE. This work is expected to begin as soon as June 6 and 7. We will close the entire roadway to complete the work. You can expect noise, dust, and vibrations. Residents and businesses can still access the alleys via NE 42nd St and NE 45th St.

Additionally, we continue to pave the intersections of 11th Ave NE with NE 43rd St and NE 42nd St. Our work will focus on one corner of each intersection at a time, with traffic detoured around the work areas shown in the maps below. Each section is expected to take one week to complete, and we will keep the area open for people walking and riding bikes.

Work areas at the intersection of 11th Ave NE and NE 43rd St. Work will begin on June 2 and June 9.

Before paving, we will install new electrical lines across Roosevelt Way NE and NE 42nd St. People travelling in this area will be detoured around the work zone. Flaggers will control the intersection during the day starting this week through Thursday, June 5.

Eastlake Construction

*Nightwork at Eastlake Ave E and Fuhrman Ave E*

Crews are working at night to install electrical lines at the intersection of Eastlake Ave E and Fuhrman Ave E. This work is expected to take up to one week to complete. Typical nightwork hours are 7 PM through 5 AM. *Please anticipate nighttime noise as crews complete this work.* Switching from days to nights will allow us to accommodate and minimize impacts to daytime traffic.

"All our nighttime activities will follow the City of Seattle’s noise variance requirements. For more information about the City’s noise code, please visit their website. Businesses and residents near the intersection of Eastlake Ave E and Fuhrman Ave E can expect a one-night water outage on Sunday, June 1, as we complete our water main work. The water outage is expected to happen between 9 PM and 6 AM. To prepare for the work, we will begin demolishing the street at 6 PM and complete all high-impact work by 10 PM.

We will connect the new water main to businesses between Fuhrman Ave E and Harvard Ave E during the day on June 3 and June 4. This work will require temporary service disruptions. Representatives from Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) will notify those affected shortly ahead of these short water outages.

Please visit SPU's webpage [ https://www.seattle.gov/utilities/neighborhood-projects/water-outages/planning-for-outages?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ] for tips on preparing for a water outage. *Paving on Eastlake Ave E between Fuhrman Ave E and Harvard Ave E*

We will start paving on the east side of Eastlake Ave E between Fuhrman Ave E and Harvard Ave E as early as June 10. This work represents an exciting milestone, marking the end of underground utility construction for the north section of Eastlake Ave E. *Paving involves heavy machinery and demolition to break up the existing road, so please anticipate loud noise from this work.* Afterward, crews will pour concrete over a foot deep to create the new road.

Traffic will be shifted to the west side of Eastlake Ave E while we pave the east side.

"Traffic will be shifted to the west side of Eastlake Ave E while we pave the east side. "

During this process, we will shift traffic to the west side of Eastlake Ave E, maintaining one northbound and one southbound lane. Once the east side of Eastlake Ave E is paved, we will repeat the same steps on the west side.

Businesses and residents will still have access to driveways during paving; however, there may be short-term closures as we cross driveways.

*Nightwork at E Lynn St*

We are working overnight on E Lynn St to install the new drainage system. We will pause construction during the weekend. Then, we will resume overnight work between Monday, June 2, and Thursday, June 5. This adjustment in working hours will help us avoid daytime peak-hour traffic heading to I-5 from E Lynn St.

We will finish the most impactful work before 10 PM; however, please expect some construction noise and activity during these nights. Crews will direct traffic through work zones from 7 PM to 5 AM. E Lynn St will be reopened during the day.

*Upcoming Water Outage between E Galer St and E Blaine St *

The properties highlighted in yellow will experience a water outage on the night of June 14.

"The properties highlighted in yellow will experience a water outage on the night of June 14."

SPU crews will shut off the water supply on the night of Saturday, June 14 to connect the new water main beneath Eastlake Ave E. The outage is scheduled to begin at 6:30 PM and will last until Sunday, June 15 at 8:30 AM. It will occur at the south end of Eastlake Avenue E, between E Galer St and E Blaine St. The properties affected are marked in yellow on the map above.

During this time, we will switch the water from the temporary system to the new water main. Crews will work at night to minimize impacts to businesses and residents. Construction vehicles will be on-site, so some noise is expected as we carry out this work. However, we will complete the most disruptive tasks before 10 PM.

The properties highlighted in yellow will experience a short water outage during the day on June 16, 17, 18, and 20.

"The properties highlighted in yellow will experience a short water outage during the day on June 16, 17, 18, and 20."

After this work, some properties will experience a short-term water outage that will take place during the days of June 16, 17, 18, and 20. This outage is expected to last under an hour as crews reconnect properties to the new water main. The affected properties are marked in yellow on the map above. SPU crews will notify affected properties on the day of the outage.

South Lake Union Construction

*Upcoming work at Fairview Ave N and Harrison St*

From June 9 to June 12, we will install underground electrical lines at Fairview Ave N and Harrison St at night. To minimize disruptions to traffic, we will work from 7 PM to 5 AM. You can expect pedestrian detours, noise from concrete breaking, excavation, and paving equipment.
