From nostalgic recollections of intimate kitchen convenings and childhood meals, to traveling to a motherland and savoring familiar flavors, and using food as symbolism to further explore socio-political complexities of cultural identity, "…A Familiar Taste" uses the common thread of food as a vessel for storytelling, cultural preservation and reconnection, and community building.

Artist:* Josh Sands [ https://joshsands.com/ ]
*Exhibition Dates:* Through January 9, 2025*

The City of Auburn is excited to be showcasing an installation by artist Josh Sands in the Vault Gallery!

*Artist Statement:*

"This piece continues my series of temporary public installations that showcases glass in the form of raindrops. Here the ordinary experience of a downpour invites viewers in to the space to contemplate, observe, and feel the sensations and emotions of such an event, in a displaced setting.

The narrative of this installation alludes to the importance of arts education and the need to shelter and support art during challenging times. Through the stewardship of local cultural centers like the Postmark and the City of Auburn’s programming, arts education and exhibition can continue to be provided and protected."- Josh Sands

We are eager to be featuring an installation by artist Amanda Jenkinson in the Vault Gallery starting January 15!

*Artist Statement:*

“I am creating a soft sculpture for installation at the Vault Gallery. This amorphous form will be created using a reclaimed metal frame, improvisationally and additively sculpted over with a foam base. I will then layer a sewn and quilted fabric layer to cover the soft sculpture. This piece will be interactive, and visitors should be encouraged to gently touch and feel the sculpture.” - Amanda Jenkinson
