*Holiday Safety and Crime Prevention*

As the holiday season approaches, the Medina Police Department would like to share some important safety reminders to help keep our community safe. Increased package deliveries, holiday travel, and busy schedules can create opportunities for theft and other crimes. A few simple precautions can make a big difference.

*Holiday Mail and Package Safety:*

* Track your packages so you know when they are due to arrive.
* Retrieve packages from your doorstep promptly.
* Check your mailbox regularly.
* If you will be out of town, request a USPS mail hold until you return by using the following link (USPS Mail Hold [ https://www.usps.com/manage/hold-mail.htm ]).

*Home and Vehicle Safety:*

* Ensure all doors and windows to your home are closed and locked before leaving.
* Use timers for interior and exterior lights to give your home an occupied appearance.
* Always lock your vehicles.
* Remove valuables from your vehicles. If you must leave valuables inside, keep them out of sight, preferably in the trunk.
* Report suspicious behavior immediately by calling 9-1-1.

If you are planning to be away during the holidays, the Medina Police Department offers the *Housewatch* program for residents. When you sign up, police officers will periodically check on your residence and look for anything out of place. To sign up, please use the following link (Housewatch Program [ https://www.medina-wa.gov/police/webform/house-watch-program ]).

From all of us at the Medina Police Department, we wish you a safe, and joyful holiday season.
