October 2024
Utility potholing work on 78th Avenue Southeast between Southeast 22nd Place and Southeast 24th Street
Expect single-lane traffic with flaggers starting October 10
Crews locating utilities and prepping site for upcoming pipe repair work:
Starting October 10, crews will be working on 78th Ave S.E. They will begin at the intersection of S.E. 22nd Pl and 78th Ave S.E. and work down 78th Ave S.E. towards S.E. 24th St. Locating utilities and preparing the site for pipe repairs is expected to take place until October 21. Upcoming pipe repairs in this area are necessary after pipe testing.
Locating utilities helps crews avoid service disruptions during construction. To locate utilities, crews use a jackhammer to break-up pavement. Then, they use a vacuum excavation truck to remove dirt and locate buried utilities. Once utilities have been located and site preparation is complete, crews will be doing repairs. We will send a notice to the Area 2 project list serv [ https://public.govdelivery.com/accounts/WAKING/subscriber/new?topic_id=WAKING_1696 ] and update the project website [ https://kingcounty.gov/en/dept/dnrp/waste-services/wastewater-treatment/capital-projects/north-mercer-island-enatai-sewer-upgrade/area-updates ] with more details about upcoming work in this area.

Single-lane traffic and flaggers:
During this work there will be single-lane traffic on S.E. 22nd Pl, 78th Ave S.E., and S.E. 24th St near the Mercer Island Park and Ride. Flaggers and signage will direct traffic through the work area. After hours, the roadway will be restored to two-way traffic. Please use caution while driving or cycling on rough roadways and over steel plates.
Access to residences will be maintained. If you have questions about access, please speak with crews on site or call the construction hotline at 425-305-3578. Crews will lay metal plates over open excavations to restore access as needed. It may take crews up to 15 minutes to set up a safe surface for you to cross.
*Please travel slowly through the work area and follow all signage and directions from crews. *
What to expect:
* Approved work hours are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday to Saturday.
* Flaggers will direct single-lane vehicle, pedestrian, and bicycle traffic through the work areas.
* No Parking on side of roadway during this work.
* Roads will be restored to two-way traffic after work hours.
* Noise, dust, and vibrations typical of an active construction project.
* Expect intermittent loud noise during jackhammering and saw cutting.
* Expect increased continuous noise while the vacuum truck is in use.
* Emergency vehicle access will be maintained.
* Garbage, recycling, composting, mail, and delivery service will be maintained.
* If services are interrupted, please call the project hotline at 425-305-3578.
* Construction schedules can change based on factors such as site conditions, weather, and material availability. Please check our project website [ http://www.kingcounty.gov/MercerEnataiSewer ] for updates.
