Mayor's Update
February 2, 2024
Happy Friday, Kent!
Last week, we announced the date of the 2024 State of the City address. The State of the City is a customary speech that the mayor of a city gives each year to address the community, reflect on accomplishments, recognize areas for improvement and talk about the future. No RSVP is required to attend and it's open to all residents.
Also, our Neighborhood Matching Grant Program is open! This offers matching funds on a competitive basis to recognized neighborhood councils to develop and implement projects which will enhance the livability of their communities. I have linked information on how to apply below.
Hope you enjoy the update and have a great weekend.
Dana Ralph, Kent Mayor

Employee of the Month
________________________________________________________________________
employee of the month
Congratulations to Brooks Chadderton, our January Employee of the Month! Brooks began working at the City of Kent in 2022 as a Maintenance Worker in Parks Facilities and was promoted to his current position in 2023.
Brooks performs a variety of skilled journey-level maintenance work to maintain, repair and upkeep city public buildings, facilities, and grounds. Prior to working for the City of Kent, he worked as a Maintenance Supervisor for Westwood Residential at Lexington Heights, an apartment complex in Renton.
He says all the people he works with here at the city are amazing. He is happier here than any other job he has ever worked, and enjoys his team and how much he has learned. Brooks loves getting to help people and he enjoys facing new challenges every day.
Brooks was nominated because he consistently demonstrates outstanding dedication and exceptional performance. He goes above and beyond expectations, exceeding targets and delivering exceptional results.
He demonstrates a strong work ethic, meets his goals and delivers high-quality work. He collaborates effectively with colleagues, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
Brooks steps up when needed and inspires others to perform at their best. What people may not always see is his overall contributions to the atmosphere in the Facilities office and everywhere he goes.
Anytime he's around, everyone is in a good mood and laughing. It just shows how great of a person he is and how his contributions go beyond just his work.
Last year, Brooks got married to his amazing longtime girlfriend, Amy. They currently live in Renton and have a rescue dog named Roxie.
Brooks enjoys taking their tent trailer camping, riding bicycles, taking their dog Roxie on long walks, and all things outdoors when the weather is nice. When the weather isn’t nice he loves cozy fires while binge watching a favorite show or movie.
Brooks continuously embraces our values, and we're excited to recognize him as our January Employee of the Month!
