Raul Sanchez

Raúl doesn’t fit the “One voice One guy” type. As the former City of Redmond Poet Laureate, 2019 – 2021, he included nature in his work in a Broad Way. Teaching bilingual poetry in Spanish and English through the Jack Straw Educational Project has given him a tremendous experience on human relations, age/culture, generational communications applying the experience acquired after years Mentor-volunteering for PONGO Teen Writing at the Juvenile Detention Center in Seattle proper. Working with traumatized teens, humans subjected to do what they were pushed to do, just to survive.

He runs the "Poetry in the Park" bi-weekly public event, beginning on Thursday April 17th and every other Thursday until September 18th, 2025, at the Meadowbrook Pond in NE Seattle. Raul and his wife are avid walkers and travelers, hence the theme of Raul’s next book. Raul’s new voice is from culture, color, history and nature.

His newest collection "When There Were No Borders" is as current as the current events. Released by Flower Song Press, McAllen, Texas, July 2021.

It’s a playful piece, but also a means to continue a relationship with someone who has passed away.” - Sarah Fetterman

I want my art to make people think about the deeper meanings and connections in everyday human interactions, encouraging empathy and reflection in the midst of life's chaos. Portraits are at the heart of what I do, as they allow me to explore the depths of the human soul. I aim to present these portraits in a way that combines beauty, intelligence, and emotional depth. In my artistic journey, I'm guided by a respect for the human body, a love for nature, and a belief in the emotional impact of visual art." -Kameh Saman
