*Kenmore Secures Climate Funding From State Agencies
*Kenmore was recently awarded funds by the Washington State Department of Commerce to install a handful of EV chargers for public use. The Department of Commerce has also awarded the city funds, thanks to the Climate Commitment Act, to develop an EV Infrastructure Plan. This plan will look at short- and long-term charging needs, assessing the location of charging deserts, high traffic areas, and preferences from the community.
Additionally, the Washington Department of Natural Resources has selected the City of Kenmore for funding to develop an Urban Forestry Management Plan. This strategic plan will identify best practices in managing and growing the local canopy while identifying areas of most need. In conjunction with the plan, a tree inventory of right-of-way trees will be conducted over the summer.
These projects will help further the climate goals outlined in Kenmore’s Climate Action Plan [ https://www.kenmorewa.gov/home/showpublisheddocument/2209/637898707618200000 ] and will be completed in 2024 and 2025.

*City Council Will Review Feedback Received on Tree Regulations*
In November and December 2023, The City Council reviewed proposed revisions to the Tree Code [ https://www.kenmorewa.gov/government/departments/development-services/trees ]. These revisions included five items:
* Increasing the tree density requirement for new development.
* Decreasing yearly allowances for single-family tree removal.
* Always requiring replacement trees when removing trees.
* Preserving existing trees along the perimeter of a development.
* Establishment of a tree fund for instances where replacement is infeasible.
Several members of the community shared their concerns about the proposed amendments, ranging from worries about the ability to build accessory dwelling units on properties to soil conditions and insurance claims. The City Council directed staff to do further engagement with these residents and to bring back new amendments in 2024. Staff met with residents who had spoken publicly or written to the City Council and gathered additional feedback that they will present to the Council on April 8 [ https://kenmore.civicweb.net/document/254220/ ], to seek further guidance before bringing forth a finalized version of the amendments later this spring.
