What is an ‘Insight Book,’ and why make one? An Insight Book is a 6 page-book of art, writing and mixed media. You don’t have to be an artist to make one, all you need are opposable thumbs and a willingness to explore lines as they spark ideas. Insight Books exercise the associative muscles of our minds, promoting creativity and problem solving. As you work on your book, you naturally move into a meditative, creative place of inspiration and expression. Making an Insight Book is often therapeutic, tapping into feelings, issues, memories, hopes and dreams. When you’re done, you hold a book in your hands. Your Insight Book.

**20 Auburn Ave*

"Vault Shapes "by [ https://www.amysimons.com/ ]* Amy Simons [ https://www.amysimons.com/ ]*
Exhibition Dates:* *through* October 13, 2024*

We are happy to introduce Amy Simons as our new Vault Gallery artist!

"These are woodcut collages. Woodcut prints because from each whole comes many parts, and collages because those parts together become another whole. They are shape shifters like us, navigating roles as both individuals and parts of collectives. Each print comes from the same block, but emerges with a unique impression, every color a mark from the moment of contact and a preservation of touch. The blocks are changed with each print too, recording, accumulating and transforming. I am interested in how we organize ourselves, what patterns we generate intentionally, subconsciously, by luck or mistake. My studio practice is one of trusting and practicing emergence: working in simple, direct interactions that unfold into complex entanglements. I look at how bodies in proximity become shapes drawn together, repel one another, or hold tension in the space between. How do bodies become ecologies of mixed beings – assemblages of minerals, microbiomes and humanness, further mixed with memories of our past selves and promises of future ones?"

View this installation in the Vault Gallery at Postmark Center for the Arts through October 13!

"Metamorphosis: An Exploration of Urban Space through Inverted Dimensions "by *Roark Congdon*
Exhibition Dates: *through** October 13, 2024
*

We are excited to introduce Roark Congdon as our new Art on Main artist! Says Congdon, "This installation seeks to transform the installation space into a thought-provoking juxtaposition of materials and forms that challenges the conventional perception of the city street. By reimagining, reshaping, and enclosing the familiar, I hope to provoke questions about the dynamics of urban spaces and the possibilities for reimagining the potential of vacant spaces." With a project title of "Metamorphosis," visitors will be greeted by structures seemingly defying gravity, inviting them to question the conventional understanding of physical space. View this installation through October 13!

Artists:* Saori Matsushita | Eric Kirby*

We are happy to announce our installation of two artists at the Auburn Community Center Gallery, Ceramicist Saori Matsushita and Photographer Eric Kirby!

Eric Kirby

*Eric Kirby |* *through** September 12*

Eric Kirby is a photographer capturing the big journeys of small toys. Kirby states, "I was always curious how toys seemed to move on their own and how they ended up in the most random locations." A storyteller by heart, Kirby translates his woven tales into crafted imagery. "Each photo creates a link to the magic around us and lets the viewer tap into those lost stories we cherished in our youth."

Saori Matsushita

*Saori Matsushita [ https://saorimstoneware.com/ ] | *through* August 30*

Saori Matsushita is a contemporary ceramic artist focusing on the techniques of Nerikomi and Neriage. Since 2008, she trained in clay sculpture and completed her MFA in Contemporary Sculpture from Musashino Art University in Japan in 2016. Her pottery are minimal yet playful, consistently bringing surprise and joy with fresh ideas. Born in Japan, she has built her own style without being confined by the traditional customs of Japan's male-centric society.

910 Ninth St. SE*

Artists:* Lev Elkin | Kimberly Tepe*

Lev Elkin

*Lev Elkin* is a sculptor transforming found wood into art. "I find twisted branches and driftwood on river banks and ocean shores and strive to reveal their hidden beauty. Some pieces display their potential right away and others spend months or even years on my shelf before I arrive at a concept. Similarly, some take weeks and others much longer to finish. I hope my art brings joy and inspires others to see hidden beauty in seemingly ordinary pieces of wood."

Kimberly Tepe

*Kimberly Tepe [ https://www.kimtepeart.com/ ]* seeks to recreate textures and shapes found in nature. "I am drawn to nature. The textures enthrall me. The medium I respond with is fabric. With fabric comes thread and fibers, and a slew of techniques to manipulate the media into shapes. I am always experimenting to find the right combination to get the right texture. I have recreated trees with life like tree bark, leaves, needles, lichen, moss, and individual mushroom gardens that stand alone to remind us of what is outside our door."

We are happy to have Jasmine Brown as our current Cheryl Sallee Gallery Artist! "My paintings, photography and public art usually focus on the face" says Brown. "I sculpt, paint, or take photographs that highlight individual beings. I’m fascinated with human features. I use facial expressions, words and patterns that convey messages, illustrate a stream of thought, or give voice to the private thoughts of marginalized individuals."

We are happy to introduce Penny FireHorse as our upcoming Cheryl Sallee Gallery Artist! "How my art is created… Most of my art can be considered impressionistic" says Penny, whose art utilizes bright colors and use of textures. "All my art is created on a soul level and it signifies my unity with the universal energy and flowing of my being into the artwork. I am inspired by many things including other artists, images, bright colors, emotional expression, and a desire of love, compassion and kindness. My art symbolizes overcoming obstacles within life to serve as hope and inspiration to others."
