*TODAY: Mayor Harrell to Join Civic, Business, and Community Members for Seattle Waterfront's Overlook Walk Ribbon Cutting and Public Celebration *

**Seattle –**Today, Mayor Harrell, City of Seattle’s Office of the Waterfront and Civic Projects and Friends of Waterfront Park will join civic, business, and community leaders for the ribbon cutting and public celebration of Overlook Walk. The ribbon cutting officially opening Overlook Walk will begin at 3 p.m. followed by a public celebration [ https://waterfrontparkseattle.org/blog/event/overlook-walk-opening/?date=202410041630&utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ] in partnership with Friends of Waterfront Park, starting at 4:30 PM.

Last week, during his budget announcement [ https://harrell.seattle.gov/2024/09/24/mayor-harrell-2025-2026-budget-remarks-as-prepared/?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery#:~:text=On%20October%204th%2C%20I%20hope%20you%E2%80%99ll%20join%20me%20as%20we%20build%20on%20the%20momentum%20of%20the%20Seattle%20Aquarium%E2%80%99s%20Ocean%20Pavilion%20and%20officially%20introduce%20Overlook%20Walk%20as%20Seattle%E2%80%99s%20latest%20iconic%20urban%20element. ], Mayor Harrell highlighted Overlook Walk’s opening, saying, “On October 4th, I hope you’ll join me as we build on the momentum of the Seattle Aquarium’s Ocean Pavilion and officially introduce Overlook Walk as Seattle’s latest iconic urban element. It will create a first of its kind pedestrian connection between Downtown and the waterfront, bridging Pike Place Market and the new Park Promenade. Good things are happening Downtown.”

Located where the Alaskan Way Viaduct once stood, this iconic elevated park will provide a new, direct, pedestrian connection between Pike Place Market, downtown neighborhoods and the entire 20-acre Waterfront Park. Once completed, Overlook Walk will join iconic Seattle landmarks like the Space Needle, Pike Place Market, the Great Wheel, and Climate Pledge, Lumen Field, and T-Mobile Park arenas as a recognizable symbol of the city’s identity.
