This exhibition celebrates an alternative and oft-overlooked story in art history: the aesthetic practices that emerged in the West Coast in the 1960s and ’70s as counter to the New York-centric avant-garde.

In September, PORT-Kai welcomes Dr. Hiromasa Miyasaka, an astrophysicist ・ from California Institute of Technology, who will give a seminar titled "The Story of the Universe Far and Near".

What is the universe ？ What kind of place is the universe ？ Have you ever wondered or asked your children ？ What is the universe that you know but do not know, and what you seem to be able to answer but cannot answer?

"When we think of space, we may think of the stars and the moon shining in the night sky, but the sun, the aurora borealis, and even the blue sky, which attracts attention with solar flares, are phenomena that connect space and earth. In this seminar, I will talk about what kind of worlds are spread out in the universe in an easy-to-understand manner," says Dr. Miyasaka.

We will also talk about recent trends in space exploration, topics in front-line space research, and the career path of astrophysics, so please bring your children along.
