Construction update for May 23 - June 6
Seattle Department of Transportation logo
Georgetown to Downtown Safety Project Update
Crews have been making steady progress on completing the protected bike lanes on Airport Way S. We rechannelized the road to accommodate the future protected bike lane and other design elements that aim to improve safety for all travelers. *The new bike lanes remain closed through the entire project route until the project is complete.* *Please follow bike lane closure and detour signage to follow the pedestrian paths through these intersections.* These closures are necessary to keep cyclists safe through intersections while safety elements are being installed.
Over the next few weeks, you’ll see the following construction activities in the area:
* Completing final inspections of various project elements along the project corridor.
* Installing new signage and pavement markings along the project corridor, beginning at 6th Ave S and S Forest St and working south.
* Electrical and signal improvements at Airport Way S and S Lucile St and at 6th Ave S and S Spokane St
*What to expect during construction: *
* *Truck detour to S Lucile St is no longer in effect. *Right and left turns for freight vehicles from Airport Way S to S Lucile St have now been restored.
* Northbound lane reduction along Airport Way S is no longer in effect. The permanent lane configuration has been installed. Drivers will notice a single dedicated left turn lane onto westbound Lucile St. and a single through lane northbound on Airport Way. Additional pavement markings and signs have been added for advance notice of lane assignments.
* Pedestrian access will be maintained. *Pedestrian detours may be longer than usual*
* Access to businesses will be maintained
* Typical work hours are from Monday to Friday, starting at 9:00 AM and finishing at 3:00 PM
* We will avoid work and traffic control during the peak hours of 7:00 AM to 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM
* We may need to temporarily change the traffic flow to accommodate the construction work.
* There will be temporary restrictions on parking.
* Some of the work activities might be noisy. This includes using backup alarms for safety, heavy vehicles, and power tools.
* Some construction may require temporary changes to bus routes. Visit the King County Metro website [ https://kingcounty.gov/en/dept/metro/rider-tools/service-advisories?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ] for rider alerts.
We will continue to post bi-weekly construction updates on this webpage and the project listserv through construction.
